Tim met ex-drummer Ben Davis during a cigarette break at school. Ben (who then played bass) and Tim started to play together on a regular basis until Tim invited Airin Older, a fellow classmate, to join. Ben was moved to the position of drummer and Airin filled in for Ben on bass. Marko DeSantis was added into the band after meeting Tim back stage at a Superdrag concert. The pair apparently met because Tim was wearing a suit that resembled the one Marko wore to the show. Tim asked Marko to join the band before even hearing Marko play a single note on the guitar.
In the Summer of 2004, the critically acclaimed "Vans Warped Tour" featured Sugarcult, who were, in fact, the final band to play at the year's tour.
After the tour, the Band teamed up with Green Day, and New Found Glory on their tour of the US, and were a huge success.
In 2006, The EA Games title "Burnout 3: Takedown" featured the song "Memory" from the Album "Palm Trees and Power Lines" and was an instant success.
After years of touring and recording, Ben was asked to leave the band due to his extensive alcoholism. Ben has said he would rather be sober out of the band than drunk and still in the band. Kenny Livingston was drafted into the band after recording Palm Trees And Power Lines and touring with the band.

Blackout
Sugarcult Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We wouldn't make it
I couldn't give enough to you
I couldn't take it
You found my replacement
I'll never wake up next to you
You wouldn't listen anymore
No one listens anymore
You couldn't give it anymore
It's a blackout
I couldn't break it
I tried to sedate it
I'll never give it up to you
Yeah
You wouldn't listen anymore
No one listens anymore
You couldn't give it anymore
It's a blackout
These are the answers that you couldn't handle
now you're on your own
These are the answers that you couldn't handle
now you're on your own
So much time's gone by
So much time could buy
I couldn't fake it
You found my replacement
yeah
You wouldn't listen anymore
No one listens anymore
You wouldn't give it anymore
It's a blackout (I'm gonna turn your lights out)
It's a blackout (I'm gonna turn your lights out)
It's a blackout (I'm gonna turn your lights out)
It's a blackout (I'm gonna turn everything out)
The lyrics of Sugarcult's "Blackout" depict the end of a failed relationship. The singer admits to not being able to fake or give enough to the other person, ultimately leading to their breakup. The chorus mentions "no one listens anymore," indicating that communication was a major issue and they were unable to resolve their problems. The singer also expresses their unwillingness to give up, but their ex-partner has already moved on and found a replacement. The repetition of "it's a blackout" emphasizes the finality of their relationship, and serves as a metaphor for the singer's emotions shutting down in response to the breakup.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of resignation and heartache, with a hint of bitterness towards their ex-partner's inability to listen and communicate effectively. The lines "These are the answers that you couldn't handle, now you're on your own" suggest that the singer had tried to communicate their feelings, but their partner was unable or unwilling to understand. The repetition of "so much time" highlights the passage of time, and the realization that it cannot fix their relationship.
