Sacred Words
Suicide Silence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There is a god who hates me
Because I question his plague
This world shouldn't feel so empty
We are stronger than faith

We are god
We are god damned
We are god damned loud
We are god
We are god damned
We are god damned proud

Faith has become the cliff note to life
A bullet point for the weak
Words on paper are meant for advice
Advice is a seed
It wasn't meant for you it wasn't meant for me

All this life I've sat and waited
For your sacred words to come down and save me
I've been led so astray and betrayed that it's hard to stand up
Hard to stand up
All this life I've sat and waited
For your sacred words to come down and save me
I've been led so astray and betrayed that it's hard to stand up
Left on my own

Where has our motivation gone
I can describe the result
The path was so easily lost
Sedated by fear and guilt

We are strong
We are stronger than
We are stronger than faith
We are strong
We are stronger than
We are stronger than death

You always warned us about the end
When it was your own you feared
There is really only nothing left
Except what we have right here
It's not you, it's me [4x]
Me!

We are god
We are god damned
We are god damned loud
We are god
We are god damned
We are god damned proud

All this life I've sat and waited
For your sacred words to come down and save me
I've been led so astray and betrayed
Astray and betrayed

All this life I've sat and waited
For your sacred words to come down and save me
I've been led so astray and betrayed that it's hard to stand up
Hard to stand up
All this life I've sat and waited
For your sacred words to come down and save me

I've been led so astray and betrayed that it's hard to stand up
Left on my own

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of Suicide Silence's song "Sacred Words" is a direct challenge to the concept of God in modern society. The singer claims that God hates him because he questions the afflictions that God has caused in the world. He also argues that faith doesn't provide an answer for the emptiness of the world, but that people are stronger than faith. This claim is emphasized as the lines "We are god, we are god damned" are repeated throughout the song.

The second stanza of the song turns towards the concept of faith as a source of comfort in life. The lyricist argues that people have become reliant on faith as a "cliff note" for life, and that the words of religious texts are only meant to provide advice, which is something that individuals must shape to make it relevant to their own lives. The repetition of the phrase "All this life I've sat and waited for your sacred words to come down and save me" highlights the absence of a divine hand in his life, and suggests a sense of abandonment.

The final stanza is vocally denouncing of religious authority which continues with the concept of individual strength over faith. The singer argues that the concept of an afterlife and an end time isn't merely an abstract warning to individuals but something that religious leaders fear too as exhibited through the line " You always warned us about the end when it was your own you feared". This concept of betrayal and loss of faith is further explored through the concluding chorus line that suggests that the singer's faith is lost, and he is left to stand on his own.

He was around this era of the band. 2017 he was also good live but 2018 what the fuck happened. He puts no effort live and sounds like a idiot.
