Sunday Sun is the spiritual brainchild of four young veterans: Koen-Willem Toering (Woost), Yoshi Breen (RubyQ), Wouter Rentema (GEM, Laura Jansen) and Jan Teertstra (Wooden Saints, Laura Jansen) have earned their stripes many times over. They found each other in their mutual love for succinct pop songs with substance; songs that can spontaneously make you smile but can also burrow their way into your heart. Their first single, Highly Respected Rebel, has already lured the likes of 3FM to declare Sunday Sun their newest Serious Talent. There is so much music simmering within Sunday Sun that this ambitious band will be releasing three EP's before the close of 2012.
Sunday Sun was conceived the way most legends are: during a legendary night at the bar. Former Rock Academy colleagues Koen-Willem Toering, Yoshi Breen and Wouter Rentema experience a night out that the good friends will still be talking about ten years from now. As the early morning Sunday sun gently rises, the three inebriated friends decide that making music in the spirit of the past evening is worth a go. The idea is as devoid of pretention as it is ambitious for these seasoned musicians: write concise pop songs with a narrative that never bores, and doesn't stray beyond the three-minute mark. Song-crafting like the Beatles did and The Shins still do. Jan Teertstra is asked to join on bass guitar, and from that point on the idea takes on a life of its own.
The two frontmen Toering and Breen try to trump one another with creative ideas, and before long they've written more than thirty songs at the kitchen table. The common denominator in all of the songs is a positive mind-set. 'All four of us are in a certain stage in our lives, a good phase, and we want to express that. The response is good; during our first show in Leeuwarden-on a Sunday in the sun-all I saw were smiling faces looking back at us. That's exactly what we're going for: entertaining people and making them feel good.'
Sunday Sun is Serious Talent on 3FM and the single Highly Respected Rebel has just been released. EP1 will be released in July.

Come on Down
Sunday Sun Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
we let go
Fools and victims of a perfect crime
Move on to the next until we change our mind
We just wanna keep on walking
Words are wasted on the borderline
You and me, babe, we're just a matter of time
we just wanna keep on talking
we watch the clouds row by
we´re drowning beans of life
on sunday morning
Sugar, I'm like children in a candy store
Living off eachother we don't ask for more
We just wanna keep on lying
Come to town, when this is going to end
but I don't wanna hear about it because I like to pretend
This is going to last for ever
On sunday morning
We watch the clouds row by
we're drowning beans of life
on sunday morning
we let go
we let go
On monday morning
we watch hours go by
before we say goodbye
come sunday morning
fools and victims of a perfect crime
move on to the next until we change our mind
we just wanna keep on walking
we just wanna keep on walking
we just wanna keep on walking
The lyrics of Sunday Sun's Come on Down describe a relationship that is built on the need for constant stimulation and temporary satisfaction. The lines "we let go, we let go" suggest a lack of commitment and a willingness to move on to the next thing whenever things get too difficult. The use of the words "fools and victims of a perfect crime" emphasize that the relationship is not healthy and may be detrimental to those involved.
The lyrics also suggest that the couple is not interested in making a lasting connection, they just want to keep talking and lie to each other. The line "sugar, I'm like children in a candy store, living off each other we don't ask for more, we just wanna keep on lying" describes an addictive relationship where the couple's only concern is their own immediate gratification. The line "come to town, when this is going to end, but I don't wanna hear about it because I like to pretend this is going to last forever" suggests that despite knowing this relationship is not sustainable, they are willing to continue living in a fantasy.
