In summer 1994 they released their first single Caught By The Fuzz which had Strange Ones on the B side, on a small local record label called Backbeat, run by Makating bass guitarist Dave Norland from his bedroom in a house in the Cowley Road area of Oxford. The song was successful and it didn't take much time when the Parlophone label signed them and few months later re-released Caught By The Fuzz again. In the spring of 1995 was released another single Mansize Rooster followed by Lenny right before they released debut album I Should Coco in May 1995. It was their only album that made an impact in the USA.
In 1997, they released their second album, In It For The Money which got them even more acclaim, but slightly darker sound confused many of their fans. Still, it was a success, both critically and financially.
The third album, released in 1999, Supergrass (or the X-Ray Album, as the fans like to call it because of the cover) was more of a continuation of In it for the money, and was not received as well as the former albums.
After the three-year-pause, Supergrass returned with Life On Other Planets (2002), which was again not succesful financially, but the critics loved it. It was also the first Supergrass album where Rob Coombes was named as the official member of the band.
After the best-selling 2004 greatest hits compilation Supergrass is 10, they released Road to Rouen, their fifth album in 2005, after some delays. It was well received but it's new direction was a surprise to many fans.
The band recorded their sixth studio album Diamond Hoo Ha between January and November 2007 in Berlin and New York. It was released in March 2008 and although criticised as formulaic, displayed strong song writing.
In 2010 they announced they would disband and played a handful of farewell shows in June. The unfinished 7th studio album Release the Drones remains unreleased.
In 2019, Supergrass reformed to play a series of gigs. However, the band does not plan on releasing new material.

When you live so many miles away
Nothing here is gonna make me stay
You took me over, let me find a way
I sold my house
Sold my motor, too
All I want is to be next to you
Maybe steal a plane
You took me over
Think I'm going insane
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
I've had a thousand girls or maybe more
But I've never felt like this before
But I just don't know what's come over me
You took me over, take a look at me
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
So many times I used to give a sign
Got this feeling, gonna lose my mind
After all it's just a love affair
You took me over baby, take me there
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
What can I do
What can I do
What can I do

"Next to You" by Supergrass is a song that portrays the intense desire and longing to be close to someone who is physically distant. The lyrics express the frustration of being apart when the singer's love interest lives miles away. The distance becomes unbearable, and the singer feels that nothing in their current surroundings can make them stay. The person they are longing for has taken them over, consuming their thoughts and emotions. The singer is willing to go to extreme lengths, such as selling their house and motor, and even contemplating committing a crime like robbing a bank or stealing a plane, just to be in the presence of their loved one. The intense longing and obsession that the singer experiences is highlighted by their statement that they have had many relationships in the past but have never felt this way before.
The repetitive chorus emphasizes the singer's desire to be next to their loved one and the frustration they feel because they cannot fulfill that wish. The lyrics imply that being physically close to this person is the only thing that can bring the singer satisfaction and a sense of wholeness. It's a desperate plea for closeness and intimacy, suggesting that without that connection, the singer is losing their mind.
Overall, "Next to You" is a passionate and desperate love song, portraying the lengths one would go to be with someone they yearn for deeply.

My absolute favourite band of all time. Can’t believe it’s been twenty five years now. Been following you guys since the very, very start and I was heartbroken when you broke up (on my wedding anniversary too). I’m overjoyed that you’re back together again.
See you in New York (although I miss the old days in Newcastle) in 2020 and I’m praying there’s another album coming our way next year. The concerts would be an excellent opportunity to test out some new material (hint hint) :-)
