No Way Out
Suzy Bogguss Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mamma's crying in the kitchen
Even the dog can feel the chill
She lays her head down on the table
Next to a stack of unpaid bills
Daddy comes and puts his arms around her
He says "Girl, your stockings' startin' run
Now it ain't ever been easy
But ain't it always been fun, fun, fun"

We fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
Sometimes you just gotta laugh about it
We fell in love and there's no way out
I said no way

Daddy's cussin' in the backyard
Got the engine hangin' from a tree
Kickin' the tires on the T-Bird
He says, "T, you ain't gettin' the best of me, not this time"
Mamma comes dancin' out the back door
Snappin' a dish towel in her hand
She says, "Don't you be wastin' all that good energy
Don't you know how I love a sweaty man-oh-man-oh"

We fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
Sometimes you just gotta laugh about it
We fell in love and there's no way, no way out
I said no way out

Fell in love and there's no way out
Fell in love and there's no way out
Fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
Sometimes you just gotta laugh about it
We fell in love and there's no way, no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
We fell in love and there's no way out
Sometimes you just gotta laugh about it

We fell in love and there's no way
No, no way, no way out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Suzy Bogguss's song "No Way Out" portray a couple who seems to have it rough but remains committed to their love. The song opens with the picture of a sad mother crying in the kitchen while the family dog is sensitive enough to feel the tension in the atmosphere. The mother is grieving as there are unpaid bills that are yet to be cleared. The father comes in and attempts to console her while also noting that her stockings need fixing.

The second verse conveys the father's frustration and anger as he is working on cars in the backyard. The mother seems to be amused by his antics, and she engages him in a playful exchange of words, showing how they find humour in their difficult circumstances. The chorus repeats that the couple fell in love, and there's no way out, and they have just got to laugh about it. It rings of a couple who understands that life is tough, but they still choose to stay committed to each other through thick and thin.

Overall, "No Way Out" is an intimate and charming love song that celebrates the beauty of a relationship withstanding adversity. Despite the hardships and stress of life, the couple has found joy in their relationship and remains committed to each other. The song portrays the message that when you find the right person, nothing can keep you apart.

A great cut from '96 . I always liked this one the video just rocks ! Granted Wheels was a new music direction for Suzy . This album had a lot going for it . CMT gave the videos good play rotation . In fact Give Me Some Wheels was released as CMT Video Hot Shot . If only Capitol had given this album the same support .
