Square One
Swamp Thing Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Friends
How can they not see
Your foolish ends?
I'm running
Out of room to breathe
And you're
Spreading out like a fucking
No one will catch you
When you fucking fall
Talk shit
On all your friends, makes you
Feel ten feet tall.
Running out
Of ladder to climb,
You'll
Fucking fall soon.
Everyone will
See you're a fake
And I'm left
Laughing in your face.
Back to
Square one, how does it taste?
Back to square one
Back to
Square one
Back to square
One
Never come around
Back to
Square one
How does it
Feel?
Back to square one
You're
Fucking done
Back to square one
The lyrics of Swamp Thing's song Square One speaks about someone who is climbing up the ladder of success and fame by stepping on their friends and talking badly about them. The singer of the song is frustrated as he sees this person spreading lies and rumors about his friends and becoming a fake person who thinks he is above everyone else. The singer is running out of patience and space to breathe in this person's company. He predicts that he will eventually fall from his high horse and everyone will realize that he was never genuine.
The chorus of the song "Back to square one" represents the fall of this person from his fake personality to his true self. He will be back where he started, with no friends to rely on and no respect from others. The lyrics suggest that this person's actions will lead him to experience the consequences of his behavior and will leave him in a position where he will have to start all over again.
Overall, the song sheds light on the importance of being true to oneself and those around us. It speaks about the consequences of trying to climb up the ladder of fame by stepping on those who helped us get there.
