Payday
Swan Christy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One man sold his life to darkness
Darkness took his son
It took his son
Search for your son
He died from the grace
It's how thinks our race
He cried from his grave
My father you're my slave
The man thinks what he should do
Live or die too
He asks a solution
My god a solution for me
Live from your lies
Hear children cry

For now lets wait
Some day you'll pay

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Swan Christy's song Payday explores the themes of loss, grief, and redemption. The opening line talks about how one man has sold his life to darkness, which could be interpreted in many ways. This man could be guilty of something, and before he could make amends, his son was taken away by darkness. The line "It took his son" is very powerful, indicating that this loss has caused great pain and suffering.

The next set of lines "Search for your son, he died from the grace, it's how thinks our race" suggests that although the man's son has died, he still clings on the hope that he can somehow find him. The line "it's how thinks our race," can be interpreted as people always hoping for something impossible, like bringing back the dead. The man then hears his son crying from his grave, and he realizes that he's living in slavery, consumed with guilt and sadness.

The man then asks for a solution from God, indicating that he wants to get out of this sadness and reclaim his life. The chorus talks about the lies he has been living in and how he hears children cry. It suggests that he now realizes that he's not the only one suffering and that he needs to move on from his grief. The last line "Some day you'll pay" is a warning to the darkness that took his son, indicating that there will be consequences to pay for what happened.
