1) a 1970's Canadian Glam-Rock Band
2) a British punk singer-songwriter
1) Sweeney Todd is a 1970's Canadian Glam-Rock Band. Formed in Vancouver, British Columbia during 1975, the band originally consisted of vocalist Nick Gilder, guitarist Jim McCulloch, bassist Budd Marr, keyboardist Dan Gaudin and drummer John Booth. The single, "Roxy Roller", became a #1 hit in Canada winning a Juno Award for the band, but Gilder and McCulloch subsequently left the band to pursue solo careers. (Gilder subsequently had hits with "Hot Child in the City," "Here Comes The Night" and "(you really) Rock Me".)
Clark Perry was brought in to replace Gilder on vocals, and Skip Prest replaced McCulloch on guitar. Perry didn't work out, however, and was replaced within a few months by then 16 year old Bryan Adams.
The new lineup recorded Sweeney Todd's second album, If Wishes Were Horses. However, that album was unsuccessful, and Adams left the band. The band attempted to carry on with Chris Booth on vocals (and Grant Gislason replacing Prest in 1978), but broke up before recording any further albums.
The band re-united in 2000 and is currently working on "The Sweeney Todd LP" and touring across Canada.
2) Sweeney Todd (born Chris Sweeney) is a British punk singer-songwriter, he has been lead vocalist for The Dead Pets, Everybody Out! and Lost City Angels. He appeared in the UK Channel4 TV show 'Faking It'; where he had to become a classical conductor.

Sweeney Todd Lyrics

At the start as we all should know
But is there a fame, it's such a cryin' shame what they're sayin'
That she's some kind of sleaze, that's a social disease
It's more than a game that they're playin'
Shut up, shut up
Don't tell me that my best friend's a menace
She might wind up in a book written by Guinness
It's all right with me, if she wants to be
Shut up, shut up
Round me a bend and I'm needin' a friend she comes to me
Call her name in the air and she'll soon be there
If you want her to be
She's one of a kind and I sure am glad that I met her
The story book lies, there's stars in her eyes
I couldn't have found one much better
But there's something we all should know
Shut up, shut up
She's a kind of a gnu that belongs in a zoo
Don't tell me that my best friends like Alice
It's all right with me, if she wants to be
Who might wind up in a looking-glass palace
As naughty as the day she was born
Shut up, shut up
Call her name in the air and she'll soon be there
If you want her to be
Round me a bend and I'm needin' a friend she comes to me
Don't tell me that my best friend's a menace
She might wind up in a book written by Guinness
As nutty as the day she was born
It's all right with me, if she longs to be
Shut up, shut up
Call her name in the air and she'll soon be there
If you want her to be
Round me a bend and I'm needin' a friend she comes to me
Shut up, shut up
The song "Shut Up" from the musical 'Sweeney Todd' is a powerful anthem dedicated to defending someone close to your heart from the harsh judgments of others. The song revolves around defending the singer's best friend by refuting the rumors and gossip that have been spread about her in social circles. The singer proclaims that his friend is not a sleaze but a special person who can be relied upon in times of need. Although she may be seen as an outsider, the singer believes that she is one of a kind and that he is proud to have met her. The song encourages listeners to stand up for their friends, who may be misunderstood by society.
The lyrics of "Shut Up" depict a scenario where the singer defends his best friend, who is seen as an outcast. The song highlights that there is no harm in being different. It encourages people to accept others regardless of their labels and encourages them to judge individuals based on their own character, not what is being said about them. The song also highlights that true friends stick by each other and support one another in difficult times.
