Sweet Deliverance was originally formed in the late 1970's as an A Cappella, southern gospel style quartet, with Kevin Allsup as the 1st tenor. Three LPs were released during this time, with a few changes along the way, including having Kevin's younger brother substituting as the deep bass.
As years went by, Bob still had a heart for the music, recruiting his good friend Kevin Percival to fill the hole left by the other Kevin. This second group of Kevin Percival, Gary Ferguson, Dave McPeak, and Bob Allsup went on to record three albums, and began the transition from southern gospel standards to performing original music.
With Kevin and Bob leading the way, everyone in the group began to write music. Beginning with the Take His Hand album, each album would be composed almost entirely of new, original music. Although Dave left and Russ Wuton took his place beginning with the Album "Let It Flow", the quality and writing didn't stop.
Their reputation grew and their 8th album was produced in conjunction with the Acappella company and released on Word Records. The Acappella Company says "They do it better than most folks", and their version of "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" won a CASA award in 1997 for the Gospel category.
They didn't stop there, however. Releasing "Walk On" and their latest offering, "You're My Rock" show a more varied style, and show that they don't appear to be stopping any time soon.
In 2009 they released two albums entitled "The Early Years", which re-released the music from Sweet Deliverance's first 4 albums on CD for the first time.

This broken heart
I am weary Lord
I am weak
Falling from your grace, then darkness
I have seen
Not on my own (not on my own)
But with Jesus anywhere I long to go
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
I will lift my hands and praise His Holy Name
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
Only You alone can heal
This broken heart
I am weary Lord
I am weak, so weak
Standing in your grace, from darkness
I am freed
Not on my own (Not on my own)
Will I learn to grow (Will I learn to grow)
But with Jesus anywhere I long to go
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
I will lift my hands and praise His Holy Name
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
Only You alone can heal
Only You alone can feel
Only You, my Lord, can heal
This broken heart (this broken heart)
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
I will lift my hands and praise His Holy Name
I will lift my hands and praise the name of Jesus
Only You alone can heal
Only You alone can feel
Only You, my Lord, can heal
This broken heart

The lyrics of "Broken Heart" by Sweet Deliverance convey a deep sense of longing for healing and restoration. The singer expresses their weariness and weakness, having fallen from grace into darkness. However, they acknowledge that they cannot learn and grow on their own but rather through the guidance of Jesus. The mention of lifting hands and praising the name of Jesus emphasizes surrender and seeking solace in him. The repeated refrain emphasizes the belief that only Jesus can heal the broken heart, echoing a sense of absolute dependence on him.
These lyrics capture the universal experience of feeling broken and in need of healing. They touch on the themes of surrender, faith, and divine intervention. The singer recognizes their own limitations and acknowledges that true growth and restoration can only come through a connection with Jesus.
