Ghetto
Sweet Noise Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born in the gutter
In the shadow of an alley
I was born in the last state of disaster

Out there can you hear me
Out there can you hear me
Lord, there's so much pain
No, no I can't stand the pain

Can you see fuckers
That try to separate us
The weak from the strong
The worse from better ones
From those who're up
Those who're down
Those who see from those who're blind

Ghetto
You're building up a ghetto

Loud, louder
The scream's getting louder
Can't stand the pain
That I'm keeping under
I face reality, sick, sick reality
False ideas, broken morality

Out there can you hear me
Out there can you hear me
Lord, there's so much pain
No, no I can't stand the pain

Can you see the fuckers
That try to separate us
The weak from the strong
The worse from better ones
Those from the East
And those from the West

Those who don't have
From those who have

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sweet Noise's song Ghetto describe the experience of being born and raised in a disadvantaged, impoverished neighborhood, or "ghetto." The singer emphasizes the pain and struggle that this reality entails, both for themselves personally and for the community as a whole. They speak out against the forces that seek to divide and categorize people based on arbitrary, superficial differences, such as wealth, race or nationality. Instead, they call for solidarity and recognition of the common experiences of oppression and hardship that bind them together.

The tone of the song is angry and rebellious, reflecting the frustration and despair that comes with living in such a situation. The repeated refrain of "out there can you hear me" suggests a sense of isolation and abandonment, and a desire for connection and empathy from those outside the ghetto. The use of profanity and confrontational language further emphasizes the raw emotionality of the song.

Overall, Sweet Noise's Ghetto is a powerful statement of resistance against the forces of poverty, inequality and division that impact so many individuals and communities around the world. Through its vivid imagery and rhetorical force, the song provides a voice for those who live with these concerns every day, and a call to action for those who can help bring about change.
