Hey Mr. Jack
Is that the mouthwash in your eyes?
Hey Mr. Jack
Is that the cause of your surprise?

Hey where you at?
On the side of the freeway in the car
Hey where you at?
On the side of the freeway in the car
In the car
On the side of the freeway in the

Hey Mr. Jack
Is that the trick of your disguise?
Hey Mr. Jack
Is that the cause of your demise?

Hey where you at?
On the side of the freeway in the car
Hey where you at?
On the side of the freeway in the car

In the car
In the car
In the car

Seven a.m. morning
Came to take us away
Little men
Big guns
Pointed at our heads

Seven a.m. morning
Came to take us away
Little men
Big guns
Pointed at our heads
At our
At our heads

Your prospect of living gone
You ran the light at dawn
Protectors on your back
Lights are on their track

You must now face authority
You're nothing like me
You must now face authority
You're nothing like me

Put your hands up
Get out of the car
Put your hands up
Get out of the car
Put your hands up
Get out of the car

Fuck
Fuck you pig
Fuck
Fuck you pig
Fuck
Fuck you pig
Fuck
Fuck you pig

Put your hands up
Get out of the car

Overall Meaning

The song "Mr. Jack" by System of a Down is an intense and thought-provoking piece that touches on themes of deception, authority, and rebellion. The lyrics appear to address a man called Mr. Jack who is in a dire situation. The singer questions if the cause of Mr. Jack's surprise and possibly his demise is linked to his disguise or mouthwash in his eyes. The lyrics are delivered in a questioning and almost accusatory tone, suggesting some sort of conflict or deception at play.

The second part of the song talks about an encounter with authority, perhaps with a law enforcement officer, that takes place at 7 am on the side of a freeway. The little men with big guns point their weapons towards their heads as the authorities come to take them away. The lyrics depict the fear and helplessness felt in the situation as one's prospect of living is gone, and they have no control over the authority's actions. The chorus repeats, putting your hands up and getting out of the car, indicating compliance to the authority to avoid further dangers.

Overall, the song "Mr. Jack" could be interpreted as a critique of law enforcement and authoritarian practices or a commentary on the deception and misrepresentations people use to hide their true selves in society.

I always go back to SOAD when all the other music is so boring. This band is legendary

@Dhakadice

That's literally what I did. :D

Long story short, this guy from Greece had heard my band on Spotify and asked me to put some vocals on two of his songs.
Being super-flattered, I went REALLY ambitious (showing off everything from super-powerful but clean vocals to minute-long growls to vocal harmonies to verses that sounded like hooks).

Then I realized it started to sound a lot like SOAD and I had to listen to this song to make sure I hadn't just ripped the whole thing off.
Conclusion: Reach for perfection and you might end up sounding like SOAD (if you're lucky).
