Where We Live and Die
Systematic Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The days go by and break this broken man
And after all my years I watch it disappear
With my arms still wide open the black sets in
I want to leave me behind
Where we live and we die
Come and let the darkness take me over
Consciousness comes and goes as I fade away
And after all my years I watch it disappear
With my arms still wide open my time sets in
I can feel my time set in
The song "Where We Live and Die" by Systematic is a reflective piece that addresses the idea of mortality and the inevitability of death. The lyrics suggest that the singer is losing their grip on life and slipping into darkness. The first two lines, "I can't hold on much longer with trembling hands / The days go by and break this broken man", express his sense of helplessness and despair. The following lines "And after all my years I watch it disappear / With my arms still wide open the black sets in" emphasize the idea of time running out and the singer feeling powerless to hold onto it.
The chorus "I want to leave me behind / Where we live and we die / Come and let the darkness take me over / There is no second chance that we can save the day" is a plea for release from the struggles of life and the inevitability of death. The singer seems to long for an escape from the pressures of life and to surrender to the darkness that he feels enveloping him.
The second verse continues the theme of losing grip on consciousness, as the singer feels himself fading away. The line "And after all my years I watch it disappear / With my arms still wide open my time sets in" conveys a sense of resignation and acceptance of the inevitable.
Overall, "Where We Live and Die" is a melancholic reflection on the human experience and the ultimate fate that awaits us all.
