1) Systems (used to be Chiaroscuro) is a band from Carrboro, North Carolina that plays primarily hardcore-, and metal-, and post-rock-influenced music. One of the premises for the band’s songwriting is the description of certain scenes. For example, the band has played music representative of the winter solstice and season, spring equinox, and desert. Each of these scenes is composed of smaller, isolated scenes. http://www.systemsnc.bandcamp.com
2) Systems were a synth-wave act from UK, composed by John ‘Strange’ Hawkins (Vocals,Bass), later of This Island Earth, Kevin Chapman (Guitar), Tony Elson (Drums) and Mike Reed (Keyboards). They released one 7” EP, titled Scenery and two other tracks were featured on the second volume of the classic Street To Street compilations.
3) Systems originated in Tulsa, OK in the beginning of 2010 with eyes set on proving, to themselves and the public, that the underground music scene was not totally commercialized and shallow. With an emphasis on creating a distinct and passionate sound, Systems took their time in the beginning stages of the band in order to carefully craft their songs. This new and upcoming sound that emerged, taken from influences across a broad array of genres, is rich in mature musicianship and passionate messages.
In the summer of 2010, Systems released a self-titled demo which quickly gained attention from fans across the United States. Their first e.p., "The Children Have Grown", will be released in early 2011 and is awaited with much expectation from fans in the United States and internationally. The music on this E.P. has the members of Systems excited, lead vocalist Michael Rowley says: "We are just excited to share our passions and music with anyone who will listen. We are trying to make music that is artistically fulfilling to ourselves, and hope that others find it to be fulfilling and inspiring, as well."
With past members of For Today, The Cherubim Seat and Eureka! making up some of the lineup of Systems, audiences and promoters alike are looking forward to the sound that emerges from this new and upcoming band.
Echoes
Systems Lyrics

The echoes
Numb out and try to hide
In plain sight
Make it louder
Make it harder
Drown out all the noise
Drown it out
It's got a way to get inside
Cuddles up to you
You want it gone
Lights out, dreams in
Every night, come out and play
You got one million hours to kill
Moving fast and standing still
Full speed ahead right here on the spot
You've got to fill up all these holes
Gaping open
Your guardian angel has passed out drunk
I guess we'll have another one
And another one
The echoes repeat
The echoes repeat
The echoes repeat
I think they're getting louder
The lyrics of the song "Echoes" by System is a poignant portrayal of how an individual tries to ward off the echoes of their inner turmoil by numbing themselves. The failure to address one's emotional pain and insecurities causes the echoes to stay and nag until they become unbearable. The opening lines of the song reflect the effort to escape from one's inner demons, which have become too loud and impossible to ignore. The lyrics "Escaping the echoes, Numb out and try to hide, In plain sight" show that the individual seeks refuge by hiding their true emotions, even in plain sight.
The song reflects a sense of desperation to drown out the noise of the pounding heart, which is indicative of internal conflict or an emotional turmoil. The lyrics "Make it louder, Make it harder, Drown out all the noise" are a call to increase the intensity and volume of music to escape the inner noise. However, the echo seems to fuse with the individual, "It's got a way to get inside, Cuddles up to you, You want it gone." The echoes are like an infection that one wants to get rid of but fails to do so.
The song 'Echoes' by System is a reminder of the ongoing battle that individuals have with themselves, and if not dealt with, one may go down a path of self-destruction slowly. It tells us that unresolved inner conflicts can only be ignored or numbed for so long before they become overpowering.
