Triangle
T.S.O.L. (w/ Jack Grisham) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We met two men from other sides, on a walk down by the river side
Trigger finger itching to see some action, he would tell me what I'd need to know
On a mission sent by the high command, proceed with caution this man's dangerous
Double agent works for the other side, get what you can then terminate his life
Reached for his lugger but I drew mine first
You're a better man than I were his last words
You're a better man than I were his last words
You're a better man than I were his last words
Was I really?
I thought about it on my way home, dingy room in a rundown hotel
Thought about who I really was, where I am from, where I'm heading to
It never really bothered me this way, I guess I got the secret agent blues
All this killing's really got me down, I got the secret agent blues
I give in just can't stand it no more, I resign
Here's my badge and gun
But you can't quit like that with us, you're a traitor and must be disposed of
They've reached for their weapons but I drew mine first
Others will come for you were their last words
Others will come for you were their last words
Others will come for you were their last words
I will be waiting
I'm hit up once or twice a week, always different places and faces
Getting so tired I can't even sleep, will they ever come for me again

So tired of all this running around, getting edgy playing hide and seek
Can't take it got to get away but there's no way out but death

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T.S.O.L. (w/ Jack Grisham)'s song "Triangle" tell a story of a secret agent who is sent on a mission by the high command. He meets two men from other sides by the river side, and one of them is a double agent who works for the other side. The agent is instructed to get what he can from the double agent and then terminate him. However, the double agent reaches for his weapon, and in a split second decision, the agent draws his weapon first and kills him. The last words of the double agent are "You're a better man than I."

After the mission, the agent goes back to his dingy room in a rundown hotel and reflects on who he really is and the killing that he has done. He realizes that all of these killings have got him down, and he can't take it anymore. He decides to resign, but he is deemed a traitor and must be disposed of. The agent is now constantly on the run and tired of all the running around. The song ends with the agent saying that he can't take it anymore and that there's no way out but death.

I love the guitar tone- the "spy" sound is so iconic and works great in punk.

TSOL Dance with me is one of the most epic hardcore, death rock albums in punk rock history.

@42belvedere

Turn back the clock to about 1982. I went to see TSOL at The On Broadway punk club in North Beach. Was still "learning how to be punk rock", as it were. There weren't a lot of people at the show, but I figured I practice my fledgling stage-dive. Got up on stage, did a little skanking move, jumped out towards some folks near the stage and...they all moved. Landed with a sickening thud on the polished cement floor. Lesson learned.
