1) TATUM is what you get when two young vocalists were rocking out in the front row at every possible gig they attended. Twins, Lelani and Leandi found their passion in writing their own music and lyrics and was desperately in need of a ROCK band. Drummer, Werner von Waltsleben(K.O.B.U.S) and guitarist, Christiaan Blom joined and TATUM was formed.
The Cape town based group burst onto the scene after they released their first track on the “Bellville Rock City” compilation album released by Rhythm Records. The label approached the band to record the track with acclaimed rock producer, Theo Crous and it did very well on numerous campus radio stations and was also play listed on 5fm. Since the release they played in and around Cape town spreading their fresh take on female-fronted rock and roll!
The group went back into the rehearsal room to start writing music that really captured them as musicians. They headed back into the studio once more with Theo Crous to start working on their first official EP which is to be released early 2012. The latest TATUM offerings are a perfect blend between modern rock-and-roll and pop and consists of tracks you can dance and rock out to at the same time while being captivated with strong melodic vocal lines, straight ahead rocking drums and memorable guitar hooks.
TATUM is a breath of fresh air in the South African Music industry where they hope to create and sustain a dominant presence.
2) Mic'Heal Tatum better known as his stage name ( TATUM ) was born on February 21st. Tragedy struck him at the tender age of 3 as he literally watched his father killed in his front yard over a drug deal gone wrong. However; it wasn’t until he was 10 years old that he was told the man was actually his biological father, and not his “uncle” as he had been previously told. His mother was also absent in most of his childhood, due to circumstances that were beyond anyone’s control. So without a mother or father, basically an orphan, Tatum was raised in and out of various foster homes. He was labeled a loser and a nothing, look down upon his whole childhood. In spite all of these negative things in his life; he changed his way of thinking and way of living. In 1998, Tatum graduated from Petersburg High School. Growing up in Washington, D.C. and the Northern Virginia area he was influenced by all types of music. Music has always been in his blood. It has been an escape from reality for him. His drug of choice, you could say. What started out as a book of poems he started writing in the 2nd grade has turned into a testimony of his life. His music is heart-felt and brutally honest. His rhymes tell a story of heartache, pain, and also overcoming trials and tribulations. Tatum joined the United States Army, following in the steps of his grandfather, step-father, and uncles. He has been to Germany, France and also did more than a few tours in Iraq. Tragedy struck once again while in Iraq. He was not only stabbed in the side and shot twice, but also hit with an IED (improvised explosive device) Bomb. So he is definitely the living proof of A SURVIVOR! On September 1, 2000, Tatum married Denise Watkins (Denise Tatum) and they have three beautiful children: Mic’Kiya age 11,Mic’Kayja age 8, and MicKaKari age 6. He has also in recent years reconnected with his mother and father.

Bare feet on dead flowers
I've never moved on very far from where we began
Hot summer nights (Summer nights)
Watching city lights (City lights)
Didn't need much to do as long as I had you
And just for a minute
You bewitched me
Every memory is a homecoming
Every photograph makes my heart beat fast
And I know we said that it's over now
But I got stuck on you somehow
I know I held on to the best parts of you (Of you, of you)
I know the picture is a bit skew
Hot summer nights (Summer nights)
Watching city lights (City lights)
Didn't need much to do as long as I had you
And just for a minute
You bewitched me
And I believed I could be happy
Every memory is a homecoming
Every photograph makes my heart beat fast
And I know we said that it's over now
But I got stuck on you somehow
Every memory is a homecoming
Every photograph makes my heart beat fast
And I know we said that it's over now
But I got stuck on you somehow
They say, oh, what a time it is to be alive
But I feel dead inside
I hate love
Maybe you're just the dark knight of my soul
I should have tested your spirit
Were you always this evil?
I try to be good, but I'm just
Walking deeper into the jungle
Every memory is a homecoming
Every photograph makes my heart beat fast
And I know we said that it's over now
But I got stuck on you somehow
Every memory
Every photograph
And I know we said that it's over now
But I got stuck on you somehow
I got stuck on you somehow
The lyrics of TATUM's song "Homecoming" explore themes of nostalgia, longing, and the inability to move on from a past relationship. The song begins with the singer watching the person they once loved dancing silently on dead flowers. This imagery suggests that the relationship has ended and is now lifeless. Despite this, the singer admits to not having moved on very far from where they began, indicating that they are still emotionally connected to this person.
The lyrics reminisce about hot summer nights spent together, watching city lights and not needing much else as long as they had each other. There is a sense of happiness and contentment in those moments, as the singer is bewitched and believes that they can be happy with this person. However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that this happiness was fleeting and the relationship eventually came to an end.
The chorus repeats the idea that every memory is a homecoming and every photograph makes the singer's heart beat fast. This suggests that even though the relationship has ended, the memories and photographs still hold a strong emotional connection. Despite claiming that they've moved on, the singer admits to getting stuck on this person somehow, indicating that they still haven't completely let go.
In the final verse, the lyrics take a darker turn. The singer expresses feeling dead inside and hating love. They question the true nature of the person they were once in love with, wondering if they were always this evil. The singer struggles with their own morality, admitting to trying to be good but feeling like they are walking deeper into the jungle, metaphorically representing their emotional turmoil.
Overall, "Homecoming" by TATUM explores the complexities of moving on from a past relationship, the power of memories, and the lingering emotions that can hold us back from truly letting go.
