Black Wedding
TX2 Lyrics

It's been two weeks
Since he tied the knot
He's dressed up clean
But there's a glove he forgot
And even the hostess knows
They're both about to explode

He raised his voice at her and she screamed
It's not by choice you don't love me
For once he nodded his head and agreed
And he said

Maybe, the cat got let out the bag
We miss the lives that we had
But we're married
So we fuck like strangers every night
And then roleplay lovers in bed
I should've listened to my friends
It's not a vow, honey, it's a threat

I never thought that I'd sit across
From a ball and chain that's locked
I told her dad, he stood there shocked
Then he spit in my face
Pissed and enraged
I said you gotta lot to say for
A man who wasn't faithful

He raised his voice at me and he screamed
His wife asked him with disbelief
For once he nodded his head and agreed

Maybe, the cat got let out the bag
We miss the lives that we had
But we're married
So we fuck like strangers every night
And then roleplay lovers in bed
I should've listened to my friends
It's not a vow, honey, it's a-

This is what real love looks like
This is what real love looks like
This is what real love looks like
Let me introduce you to my life

Maybe, the cat got let out the bag
We miss the lives that we had
But we're married
So we fuck like strangers every night
And then roleplay lovers in bed

I should've listened to my friends
It's not a vow, honey, it's a threat

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of TX2's song "Black Wedding" depict a tumultuous and strained relationship between a married couple. The song begins by highlighting the passage of time since their wedding, emphasizing the disconnect and tension that has built up over the two weeks. The singer is portrayed as being well-dressed but forgetting a glove, symbolizing a flaw or mistake in their marriage. It becomes clear that both partners are filled with resentment and frustration, with even the hostess sensing their explosive dynamic.

The couple engages in a heated argument, with allegations of lovelessness and a lack of choice in their union. The husband finally acknowledges his wife's feelings, implying that they are engaging in sexual acts like strangers every night, compensating for their emotional distance by roleplaying as passionate lovers in bed. However, the lyrics suggest that this arrangement is not what they envisioned when they got married. The singer regrets not heeding the advice of their friends, realizing that their marriage is not a genuine commitment but a threatening situation.

The narrative takes a twist as the perspective shifts to a confrontation between the singer and the wife's father. The father expresses shock and disapproval, spitting in the singer's face, likely in response to his lack of faithfulness. In an ironic turn of events, the husband confronts the father, highlighting his hypocrisy for condemning him when he himself was unfaithful. This confrontation further emphasizes the dysfunctional nature of their relationship and the breakdown of trust between all parties involved.

Overall, the lyrics of "Black Wedding" delve into the complexity of a troubled marriage, exploring themes of disillusionment, dissatisfaction, and the consequences of unfaithfulness. It portrays a relationship that has devolved into a toxic cycle of physical intimacy masked as emotional connection. The song challenges the notion of traditional vows and highlights the contrasting reality of their union.

It's so comforting that I have the choice to marry today. My great grandma, who got married young (literally in her teens), never had a choice of who she got to love. Now, due to the way the world is, I get to opportunity to marry the woman of my dreams. Sure, I'm single, and not out as lesbian to my parents, but it's nice to have the comfort of these songs. Anyway, (sorry for the rant lol) amazing song Evan, and keep it up.
