Spotlight
TaKaRa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Moon hangs in the night
A spotlight on the world
Rising the lands,
Moving the seas
And tonight from where
I stand on this hill
The spotlight's on me
I am young long ago
I know not a thing
Only that the sky is blue
Or sometimes gray
Flowers grow but they need rain
And when you're a kid
You play games all day
Anywhere you can

Spotlight
I found you
I know where you are
I found you
I know where you are

Formative years come along
Some take the lead
And some fall behind
Confusion untold
Life can be so dramatic
But it was real at the time
Laughing with friends
Crying alone
All the false hearts and petty love
We leave school
To face the world
That seems fun for the world

But you tire of the same faces
And you dream of new places
It was a breath of aspiration
When my sister said
"Let's get out of here"
We left our town
We travelled 'round
And I went to find me

Spotlight, spotlight
I found you
I know where you are
Spotlight, spotlight
I found you
I know where you are

Twenty something and the fog
Has all but disappeared
With each day passed
I learned something more
At all rate I'm thinking here
I must know it all
Love, death, a little pain
Has passed through these walls

Situations still arrive
Where I can see
The way I behaved was unjustified
These are the times
I look inside
And I see
I'm a child after all

Spotlight
I found you
I know who you are

Spotlight
I found you
I know who you are

Spotlight
I found you
I know who you are

Spotlight, spotlight
I found you
I know where you are

Spotlight, spotlight
I found you
I know where you are

Spotlight, spotlight
I found you
I know where you are

I found you

Moon hangs in the night
A spotlight on the world

Overall Meaning

The song "Spotlight" by TaKaRa starts with a description of the moon hanging in the night like a spotlight on the world. The rising and moving of the lands and seas are observed from a hill, and the spotlight is on the singer. The first stanza then shifts to the memories of the singer's childhood where they knew nothing except the blue or gray of the sky, the growth of flowers and playing games all day. The chorus comes in with the declaration of finding the spotlight and knowing where it is.

The second stanza talks about the formative years where some take the lead while some fall behind. Confusion and drama fill up this time, but it was real at the moment. The singer leaves school to face the world, which appears fun for the world, but they get tired of the same faces and dream of new places. At this point, the inspiration to leave comes from the singer's sister. They travel around, and the singer embarks on a journey to find themselves.

The last stanza ends with the singer in their twenties, and the fog of confusion has disappeared. Each day they learn something new, and there is a yearning to know everything about love, death and a little pain. The singer admits to behaving unjustifiedly in certain situations, but these are also the times when they look inside and see themselves as a child after all. The chorus is repeated, but the last line is just "I found you," indicating that the search is over.
