Overall Meaning

In Tab-One's song "Do Better", he struggles with feelings of jealousy and insecurity in his relationship. Throughout the song, Tab-One expresses his desire to know if he is truly the only one for his partner and his fear of losing her. Had my P11 pro 3 months and already received 3 updates for it, last one being on the 29th of March with Android's March security patch. My cheap Motorola phone has been updated to this month's Android security patch...

Just got my Xiaomi pad 5 and have been seriously impressed for the price (£320). I have a Pixel 7 and there are some pretty big software differences, but if you want to just do some light browsing and general media consumption it's a fantastic little device!

@Jon Lines Yeah, i wouldn't want the OS for my phone, it's a bit to simple for my taste. But I mostly use my tablet for media consumption and web browsing. And for that I think the 5 is excellent. Great screen, never loses connection to Bluetooth or wifi, great battery and very snappy!
It doesn't share the eco-system benefits that Apple and Samsung does with their device's. But I'm not sure how much i really need that in this case.

Great review, I like the fact you put up comparison tables. Just 1 small niggle, for the iPad Air there is a smart keyboard folio which is £199 and is actually more comparable to the keyboard that comes with the OnePlus Pad (but offers 2 screen positions).

I think this OnePlus pad is trying to capture the 10th gen iPad segment. Android phone owners don't necessarily buy Android tablets. But this one tablet could make people look at OnePlus over Samsung and/or low-end/mid-range iPads

Not sure why they'd put it in international markets without a Snapdragon chip. Hopefully the next generation OnePlus Pad has better storage and RAM options, an OLED display and a proper Snapdragon chip. I understand all these features will increase the price by quite a bit but it's necessary if this is to be a proper Android table cause as of now, this tab is a mixed bag even though it is relatively cheap

Under $449 OnePlus pad is definitely the best tablet in specs.
They should have launched a OnePlus pad pro with the flagship Snapdragon 8Gen2 with Amoled display.
You should know, an 11 inch amoled display costs around $250. If they have given an OLED/Amoled display, then the price would have been around $600 and people would have gone for ipads.

The Samsung Tab S7 FE is the competitor to this more than the Tab S8.
I'd take a Samsung tablet over this because of how good Samsung Dex. It even makes the Tab S6 lite a great tablet and it can go for as low as $249 with a stylus included.

I'm surprised its performance isn't great, the Dimensity 9000 supposedly has the power of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but is much more power-efficient. I wonder if it's optimisation issues or the large native resolution that makes demanding games to run harder than they would have on smaller devices.

Frankly, the mediatek dimensity 9000 chipset is extremely powerful and is rated at 3.0 GHz per second. I would definitely choose this over the Google pixel tablet that came out recently. In fact, I think the processor is one of the main reasons people would choose the OnePlus. I really don't understand his seemingly uninformed grievances about the processor. LMAO.

I have been playing Genshin impact in the highest setting on the OnePlus pad, it works far more than what I have expected.
It gives you 56+ average Fps in the highest setting which is better than the ipad 10 gen with the underclocked A14's gaming performance.

OnePlus will have a foldable soon to join the ecosystem, however, I am more into the Pixel ecosystem, so am waiting for the Pixel Tablet and Fold to see how the land lies.

The OnePad is reasonable; even the much more expensive (but obviously a lot better) Tab S8 is LCD, so at £450, that choice is reasonable. Fills a space in the tablet market.

Great video as always! I can’t live without my 12.9” iPad as I am a full time professional musician and I use it for every rehearsal, every practice session, and every concert in which I’m reading sheet music, so it has become absolutely indispensable to my work. And it’s not that I need all that processing power, but the size is simply ideal. Im thinking the One Plus Pad could be a perfect choice for a lot of musicians as well since it has a really good size, plus that battery performance.. sounds great!

Great Review. Clear and crisp. I am an apple person and kind of locked in their aura of products. I have recently got an iPad 12.9 but the battery sucks.

I also have one plus phones literally 5 years old but they work still work like a breeze. One plus is quality and this is their first attempt to enter in this market.

And by the looks of it, this guy has good battery life.

Now I hope one plus gives a fierce fight to apple in their tablet space with new product launches.

I was either going to get a second hand 12.9 iPad (for approx £450) or a new Honor 8 Pad as I am a magazine addict and want it for Readly (most mags are around A4 size). I don't care less about power or refresh rate. This screen ratio looks close to 12.9 iPad. What would you guys go for if me ?

i seriously enjoy this tablet price and overall approached towards none game playing but mostly work purpose. But the ultimate deal breaker is the memory. Been only 128GB with no expandable memory slot? that is just unacceptable for me, i need to keep so much video and documents for my presentation and so on and this tablet just kind of lack that final key factor. If they made a 512 memory build it with the 9k+ battery for this price point I would have purchase this.

I think that this tablet compares more to the FE model from samsung rather than s. And in that bundle it comes with a keyboard and a pen for $600-700, and it has been on sale in a bundle for around $400-500.Tthe power is actually similar because Oneplus uses a mid range chip. The only big difference is high refresh rate screen.but the 7 fe has benefits such as expandable storage and a lower price. Plus, it is not supported by the CCP like Oneplus is.

@Nest Tea You must have no idea of what the Dimensity 9000 is. It has a performance similar to the chip inside the Samsung S8, not the FE. I have the FE (the faster non 5g model) and the speed difference with my S8 ultra is very noticeable. The FE comes with a pen but not a keyboard. I got mine, the top specced model, at a great price ($550) but the original price for that model was way higher. Even the base model, which only had 64GB of storage, was more expensive than that when it came out. The FE was way overpriced at the beginning. This tablets competes with the 11" S8, not the FE, in terms of specs

I went Lenovo as well, and I want this thing. Lenovo gave me one update on my Tab P11 Plus, and cut off support. I don't even get security patches. They also didn't have an English version of their folio keyboard available in Canada. When I asked them to help me source an English model, they told me they only had a SKU for the French model. It's a shame because the tablet itself has some decent hardware. The display is nice, the speakers are great, and they also have the folio keyboard concept, but Lenovo is an awful company with zero support.

Does it come with a good handwritten notes / annotation app? I know iPad has goodnotes and notability that you can buy, and samsung tablets have samsung notes which is pretty good to annotate pdfs, but what about this tablet?

I think OnePlus is too late to the party... If Samsung focuses on the FE (Fan Edition) line up in both smartphones and tablets, then no more which company comes out with a new tablet... They wouldn't matter

The Dimensity 9000 is more powerful than SD 8 Gen 1 and far better in efficiency. It is a lot closer to 8+ Gen 1, and thus Dimensity 9000 currently is the most powerful chipset among Android tablets that is not exclusive to China.

LCD is better. Better battery life and no burn in. High quality LCDs are very similar in quality to oled

@crazyforiegner2 I see your point but I have never experienced any burn in on any OLED with normal use. I agree a high quality LCD shouldn't have issues, I have a hunch the OP Pad is not high quality though based on other reviews I am seeing, lots of notes of blurry scrolling.

@Daniel Betancourt well I think the solution is to use a higher quality LCD displays. The tab S7 fe gets 17hr web browsing battery life whereas the tab S7+ gets 7hr with the same size screens and battery size. The battery trade off is too big

@crazyforiegner2 Maybe. I am not sure the display is the main factor for battery drain there, the Snapdragon 750g draws 5w of power vs 10w on the 865. Also OLED is somewhat user specific in that battery drain is highly dependent on dark mode vs light mode. Obviously LCD will perform similarly in both cases due to the always on backlight.

I was quite disappointed at first cause they made it look like a wanna be iPad even with the software, but this reviews kinda makes me feel better about it. I would buy this if the actual Oxygen OS ran on it but sadly, these days are over

Does anyone know if this tablet is suited for digital illustration?
I'm a fanatic drawer and my last tablet died.
I'm considering buying this OnePlus pad but I NEED to know, combined with the OnePlus pencil, if it's similar to drawing on an iPad.
I'd rather safe 400 euros and get a similar tablet, than throw away 1200 for the basic iPads :/

@Katina Southerland wouldn't expect to see 8 gen 2 or Dimensity 9200 tablets this year. For some reason tablets always lag a year behind phones for CPU's, unless you go with top range Samsung tablets, which will probably release their S9 range with 8 gen 2 chips in the Fall. For most tablets the latest and greatest isn't really interesting anyway, as they're mostly used for media consumption.

It's a bit different for gaming for this tablet review per review. Tom said that gaming was decent on the pad, while TrakinTech said that this might be the best gaming tablet, so it is quite surreal. Is it in the middle or is one insight a bit too elastic?

The Dimensity 9000 is supposed to breathe down Snapdragon 8 Gen 1's neck in performance while being a lot more power-efficient. I wonder if Tom was comparing it to gaming performance on the likes of iPads (he did bring up iPad a lot in this review after all), which if he did, means the performance here will be more than satisfactory for most people.

I'm glad Oneplus released this. Although there's no headphone jack (which I use) there's no hole in the screen so I'll get it if their website let's me. So far you are the only one I'm subscribed to that mentioned it having no headphone jack.

I would of ordered one immediately except there is no charger and no 3.5mm headphone jack. I hate having to charge up ear buds. Maybe next years model will be better and give us a charger and headphone jack.

The true competitor is the iPad 9 gen(2021). That one performs about the same as the Oneplus Pad in Geekbench and it's even cheaper(just 369 Pounds!). The iPad 10 gen makes no sense, specially because it uses the lightning apple pencil when it doesn't actually have lightning port.

Anyone that has this. Can you expand storage or is it stuck at 128gb? I wanted to use it for comics and games. And i have hundreds of comics and games usually 128 gets crammed up fast. My ohone always sits at 256gb and it does the job. I wish they never got rid of the micro sd expansion.😢

I’m confused by you saying the processor isn’t great and lets it down. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is their fastest flagship processor I thought?!
I have the Oppo Reno 8 Pro with the Dimensity 8100 processor and that absolutely flies and is as fast as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, so I was expecting thr Dimensity 9000 version to be even more impressive.

Dimensity 8100 is not faster than even SD 8 Gen 1 though. On AnTuTu, SD8 Gen1 scores ~18% higher than the 8100, and SD8+ Gen1 scores ~36% higher than the 8100.

Dimensity 9000 scores higher than the 8 Gen1 though, but not by much (4-10%). And 8+ Gen1 still scores 6-11% higher than the 9000. I agree that the 9000 should still be no slouch, but you were possibly expecting it to be more impressive than it really is.

Dimensity 9000 is a great chip, but as you said it's a good competitor of the SD8G1 which is the last year chip, they are already have the SD8G2, and that is way better in lot if area, especially in graphics and in power consumption, both are important in tablets (or can make the tablet to even better for daily usage)

@Tamas Kiss bruh it doesn't matter. Tablets with an sd 8 gen 2 would cost more than twice this one. Why are we even having this conversation? If oneplus wanted to make a tablet with sd8gen2 they wouldve. The point of this tablet is to be the best in its price range, which it is. And don't forget that the much more expensive s8 tablets use 8gen1s which are worse than the dimensity 9000 ( sustain loads, heating etc even though it has slightly higher peak gpu performance)

The "aspect ratio wars" are getting out of hand.
First, it was laptops going to 16:10 instead of 16:9 and now tablets are going to 7:5. The next "upgrade" will be basically a true square. Do we really need a (nearly) square screen? Personally, I'm perfectly happy with a 16:9 ratio. I don't even like the 3:4 ratio of the iPad.
