Born and raised on the island of St. Lucia, Weekes grew up the youngest of ten children in a musical family. "My musical influences were quite varied, 'cause the radio stations played all kinds of music. There were no formats, so we grew up listening to everything from reggae to calypso to classic rock and classical music."
Weekes soon felt confined by the borders of St. Lucia and left home to fulfill his musical ambitions in North America. There he formed his band Taj Weekes and Adowa and multi-media company Jatta Entertainment.
To date, the group has released two full-length albums to critical acclaim, “Hope & Doubt” and “Deidem,” which won “Best Reggae Album” at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. The band is set to release their much-anticipated third CD, an acoustic album entitled "A Waterlogged Soul Kitchen," this summer.
Weekes' music defies category... an amalgam of roots style reggae, afro-folk, rock and jazz. Essentially, Taj Weekes is a poet who sings to the rhythm of all that has come before and all that stretches out before him... life, his life... from his own unique and complex perspective.
Always striving to bring awareness to the issues he is passionate about, Weekes founded his charity, They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO), in 2007 to improve the lives of underprivileged children in the Caribbean through sport, enrichment, educational and wellness programs.
Named a Goodwill Ambassador by the International Consortium of Caribbean Professionals and recognized by a division of the United Nations, Weekes addresses issues such as global warming, casualties of war, domestic and youth violence, diabetes and health, poverty and the welfare of children.

For Today
Taj Weekes & Adowa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
will guide my way, through my dismay
I only wish you knew, the force that pulls you through
on the latter day, the saints will pray
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
beginnings on the way, hold on for today
said I know you will fight as I stand still
sling and a stone, a bully throne
said I know you will fight as I
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
new beginnings on the way, hold on for today
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
beginnings on the way, hold on for today
today, today, today, today
wickedness on low and high
cries for justice fill the sky
and the people question why
oh why oh why
wickedness on low and high
cries for justice fill the sky
and the people question why
oh why oh why
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
beginnings on the way, hold on for today
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
beginnings on the way, hold on for today
yesterday’s long gone way, tomorrow’s on its way
oh yea hold on for today
the latter days have come, the ending has begun
beginnings on the way, hold on for today
later days have come, hold for today
can you hold on, hold on for today
The song "For Today" by Taj Weekes and Adowa seems to be a message of hope and perseverance in the face of darkness and oppression. The first verse talks about a light that will guide the way through the darkest night, and a force that will pull you through on the latter day, when the saints will pray. The latter day might refer to some kind of judgment or reckoning, where good is rewarded and evil is punished.
The chorus repeats the message of the latter days having come and the ending having begun, but also talks about new beginnings on the way, and encourages the listener to hold on for today. The verse that follows seems to be a call to action, as it mentions wickedness on low and high, and cries for justice filling the sky. The people question why, but the song implies that the answer is to hold on for today and fight against the oppression and injustice.
The repetition of the phrase "hold on for today" throughout the song reinforces the idea that sometimes all we can do is take things one day at a time, and focus on the present moment instead of worrying about the past or the future. The references to a sling and a stone, and a bully thrown, might be a metaphor for the struggle against oppression - even if you feel small and powerless, you can still fight back and make a difference.
Some possible themes of the song are faith, hope, resilience, and social justice. The lyrics are fairly simple and repetitive, but the melody and rhythm are catchy and upbeat, with a prominent reggae beat and some hints of rock and roll. The overall effect is energizing and uplifting, encouraging the listener to keep going and not give up hope.

Boy I know Lucifer is sorry that he left the great throne room he should have bowed before the new creation, he would have still been apart of the choir of the mighty host.
