My Boys
Taken by Trees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There isn't much that I feel I need
A solid soul, and the blood I bleed
But with a little cat and by my spouse
I only want a proper house

I don't care for fancy things
Or take part in the freshest way
But to provide for my mine who ask
I will work hard, on my father's grave
On my father's grave

I don't mean to seem like I care about material things
Like a social status
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my boys

There isn't much that I feel I need
A solid soul, and the blood I bleed
But with a little cat and by my spouse
I only want a proper house

I don't care for fancy things
Or to take part in the freshest way
But to provide for my mine who ask
I will work hard, on my father's grave
On my father's grave
Father's grave

I don't mean to seem like I care about material things

Like a social status
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my boys

Overall Meaning

The song "My Boys" by Taken by Trees is a heartfelt ode to simple living and the importance of family. The first verse sets the tone for the lyrics as the singer explains that there isn't much that she feels she needs in life, just a solid soul and the blood she bleeds. She goes on to express that all she wants alongside her spouse and a little cat is a proper house for her family. As the song continues into the chorus, the singer emphasizes that she does not care for fancy things or social status, but instead just wants a home for her boys, made of "four walls and adobe slabs."

The second verse emphasizes the singer's willingness to work hard to provide for her family's needs. She states that she will work hard on her father's grave, indicating the deep connection she has to her family and ancestors. Despite this dedication to hard work, she still maintains that her only desire is a home for her "boys," emphasizing the importance of family to her. In the final repetition of the chorus, she once again expresses that her desire for a home is not about material things or social status, but only about providing a stable and safe environment for her family to thrive in.

Overall, "My Boys" is a poignant and emotive song that celebrates the importance of family and the simplicity of a life built around love and stability.

the instrumentation is very agreeable and the over all tone of the song has produced a nice, clean, repaired feeling in my chest. and the combination of the symmetrical but still organic rhythm of the drums with the playful overtone of the plucking strings is very breakthrough. and i appreciate how the melody is held artistically and how it's coupled politely with the intellectual feel of the synth. the remake of this song was obviously a poetic concept that was translated into non-verbal form

the parallel between the original and this cover proves that gender barriers are insignificant. amazing song with an amazing message.

Victoria is adorable! I loved her voice first time I heard it on the radio years ago singing "YOUNG FOLKS" with Peter, Bjorn and John. Then I found the girl so cute and mysterious on the video by New Order "Temptation". I recently learned that darling girl on the NEW ORDER video was the same girl who sings YOUNG FOLKS. After learning more about her I found "Taken by Trees"and "The Concretes". I have a NEW ( but has been around along time) pop star I just love.....VICTORIA BERGSMAN! I am usually a head with music. Not this time. Lots of years passed. with only knowing the girl on young folks has an awesome voice. She even makes one of my favorite bands "New Order" video "The temptaion of Victoria" soooo cool.
