So... reading into the lyrics as I often love to do instead of doing my homework I can actually kind of get a feel of the theme of this song.

Tldr: I think this song is the expression of doubt in the self that many tack on in their daily lives. Now this is nothing new but many people wear masks, masks that hide their authenticity and themselves.

As the song goes on we learn that all of this doubt in the self stems from saddened pasts.. Pasts that hurt so bad we continually run from them in our lives, often adopting this mask. And we adopt this mask because we blame ourselves our true self on those past hurts.

But as this song emphasizes there's freedom in the self, and in reality I think lot's of hurt people (example from war which FE is pretty much all about) want to find solice in living as THEMSELVES, while also wanting to find happiness so they never have to feel that cold again.

I definitely think the game will tackle some of these issues based on this track considering Azura's song tackled the idea of battle based simply on bloodlines and placement in the world.

Sorry for the rant oof, this just resonates with me a lot as a person who's been through really rough times and tries to accept myself xD.

Yeah, I didn't like Smash's at all (thought it was super corny), I really liked Mario Odyssey's (really emotional and adventurous) and I LOVE this theme (really epic, emotive, melancholic and dramatic). Overall, I'm not a fan of this vocal theme song route Nintendo has taken, but I must say I do like 2/3 of the themes :)

Even though the game has many themes and each route focusses on other views, everything revolves around Edelgard and her inner turmoil and sruggle, even when she’s just a background chracter in the monestary phase during the GD and BL route. She drives the entire story, so it only makes sense for the main theme to be about Edelgard as well.

@Hanneman is underrated I think they may have been refering to the plan, to use the church as a "decoy", so he can surprise attack Edelgard and friends, the japanese lines seem to be a bit more direct about that. But I don't know, I haven't written that comment, maybe they were talking about something else.

@Pearlily what did Dimitri so wrong in CF? (I’m not asking this as a total simp who would defend his glorified lord no matter what but just as someone who played every path twice xD) He definitely went wrong in VW and SS but idk, he seemed a bit more sane in CF than in the other paths and didn’t slaughter hundreds of imperial soldiers while wandering like a lost and lonely beast. I guess he did wrong by thinking that Edie was responsible of the Tragedy of Duscur but this happens in every path. If you’re referring to the royal generals who turned into demonic beasts at Tailtean, it was not because of him. He never would have let Dedue take the crest stones if he knew about it.

I enjoyed to be at the side of Edelgard as much as I enjoyed siding with the others (maybe not SS it’s my least favourite) but I personally don’t see her as a real hero, more like an anti-hero (she admits herself that her path is covered in blood and will lead many to madness or death in her C-support with Hubert)

Hanneman is underrated

@Babu Babu I don’t think she tried to kill him at the end. She aimed his shoulder but she totally could have aimed his stomach or his heart and potentially killed him. She did this just to make him react in self-defense and kill her because she didn’t want to live anymore (I mean if she continued to live she probably would have been imprisoned as an enemy or would have died from her double-crest thing). But ofc it’s up to you to interpret differently this cutscene after all

Yeah sorry to make you hate that song but it’s definitely Edelgard’s song :’D she summarise the story with her point of view. “Edge of Dawn” plays in the credits at the end of AM, SS and VW but not at the end of her path because I guess she got to see the “Colors of Sunrise”.

I like the addition of more verses to this song--it adds more depth to the character of whom I'm assuming is Edelgard, since the 'red rose' mentioned represents her house's Crest.
However, I feel as if the singer isn't putting as much effort into singing this compared to the first E3 trailer. To top it off, the dubstep in the background does make it sound like a generic anime, sadly. I like the lyrics and the singer, but just not the dubstep as much.
The trumpets and orchestration sounded absolutely godly, so I hope that they haven't tossed out that concept and make it the official main theme rather than this one. I'm not saying that I hate it, I would just like one over the other more.

It seems like this song is about Edelgard. In term of lords, she's like the main one of the game. Red rose, the mask and the scoring flame that she bears (Her clothes, her identity as the flame emperor, and the crest of flame).

For fuck sake she is just the basic archetype of the antihero who's got a Nice goal but employs almost every means to get to it. If you dont like her you just dont like antiheros. then there is the fact that the pre timeskip story pretty much revolves around the blue lions for some reason. I thought we would get something else instead of lord lenato(ashes dad) and mikkan(sylvains brother) for the other houses. but then they were put into these missions and kinda had no real reason to be there story wise. all im saying. she ain't really what I would consider the canon route. even tho I know there is none

@Hinrik H those who slither in the dark are the real villains. Edelgard has done many unforgivable things for most people, but she knows it and her resolve wavers because of that. Each route is meant to be you following the lord's personality and methods. Hence why, in edelgard's path, you dont make exceptions for your former students and keep moving forward. And honestly you can avoid to kill almost everyone aside from Dimitri. But it sure is dangerous, just like it would actually be.

It's funny, this sounds more like a full length anime opening song then a main theme, while Lost in Thoughts All Alone sounded more like a main theme song and Heritors of Arcadia sounded more like a ending credits song. (which is what it was used for)

We have 2 versions of The Edge of Dawn. One who was found in Staff Credit was normal version and another one where you heard in was a Seasons of Warfare version.

Literally sounds like an anime opening.
It's good, it's weird to hear so much techno in a FE song, but it still falls behind Lost in Toughts and the Elder god tier of Heritors of Arcadia.

~~whistles~~ Nintendo hitting it up with awesome music the past couple of years. I really love when a video game gets a song (main theme or otherwise) with a lyrical track. And being able to hear that in English is nice rather than trying to find a translation.
