She is noted for her spinto mezzo-soprano, a rangy three octaves, capable of both dark contralto depths and angelic soprano highs. Interlude
Tamia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Who you are
There's a stranger in my house
Took a while to figure out
There's no way you could be
Who you say you are
You gotta be someone else
And he wouldn't treat me like you do
He would adore me
He wouldn't ignore me
So I'm convinced
There's a stranger in my house
The lyrics to Tamia's Interlude describe a feeling of betrayal and confusion as the singer realizes that the person they are with is not who they thought they were. The line "There's a stranger in my house" sets up the theme of distrust and unease as the singer tries to reconcile the actions of their partner with the person they thought they knew. The lyrics continue to highlight the differences between the two versions of this person, with the singer noting that this person treats them in a way that their true partner never would. This realization culminates in the singer's conviction that there is indeed a stranger in their house, someone who is masquerading as their true partner.
Overall, the lyrics of this song speak to the dissonance and doubt that can arise in a relationship when someone's true nature is revealed. The singer is left feeling like they don't know who they are with, and the lyrics suggest that the person they thought they were with was not who they believed them to be. It's a powerful reflection on the way we perceive the people we love, and the difficulty of coming to terms with a reality that doesn't meet our expectations.

I don't know just
I am uncertain about
Who you are
Your true identity
There's a stranger in my house
I feel like there's someone foreign in my home
Took a while to figure out
I had to take my time to comprehend it
There's no way you could be
It's impossible for you to truly be
Who you say you are
Who you claim to be
You gotta be someone else
I believe you are someone different
'Cause he wouldn't touch me like that
Because my partner would not lay hands on me in such a manner
And he wouldn't treat me like you do
As well as he wouldn't treat me the way that you do
He would adore me
He was bound to cherish me
He wouldn't ignore me
He would never neglect me
So I'm convinced
Therefore, I am persuaded
There's a stranger in my house
That there is an unknown individual in my place of residency
