All The Time
Tammy Wynette & David Houston Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's that look upon your face every time I look your way
Let's slip away and meet some place
Wanting you the way I do if my conscience don't show through
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time
I guess I've always known tonight just had to come
You've always had some kind of hold on me
There's one thing I know that's true if you want me I gotta want you
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time
I'll soon be nestled so close to you trilling knowing baby how much you want me to
If desire takes full control of my body and my soul

I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tammy Wynette's song "What My Thoughts Do All the Time" explores the theme of giving in to temptation despite the knowledge of the consequences that come with it. The singer is enthralled by the love interest, and every time she looks at him, she feels a deep desire to be with him. She tries her best to resist her feelings for him and listens to her conscience, but she ultimately succumbs to her thoughts and desires. The singer has always known that this moment would come because the love interest has always had a hold on her.

The chorus of the song, "I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time," emphasizes the inability of the singer to resist the temptation to be with the love interest. The singer's thoughts are consumed by the love interest, and she cannot help but give in to her desires. She knows that it is wrong, but the pull towards the love interest is too strong for her to resist. In the end, the singer knows that she will give in to her thoughts and desires, and she cannot help herself.

Overall, the song explores the consequences of giving in to temptation and the difficulty of resisting the pull of desire. It showcases the struggles that people face when faced with difficult decisions and the weight of their emotions.

This song has haunted me since I was a kid. No country today can come close to this!!!

@herbertlong3981

"Country music" today is not country
Its not even music
Somewhere in the early 80s, the music died.

@Jinka1950

Lizzo and jelly roll. Disgraceful

@bazthehandyman

Absolutely.

@SuzyQ1956

George and Tammy plus some of the old school country musicians, forgot more than most of the so called country today. It’s an insult to real country today’s music, no fiddle, no steel guitar, no dobros in most of it. It’s not for me

@sherrymartin2486

It is definitely a year jerker ❤❤😢

I SANG ONE SONG WITH TAMMY IN MY HOME TOWN. PEOPLE WANTED TO HEAR ELUSIVE DREAMS. SHE TOLD THE AUDIENCE "BUT I DON'T HAVE A PARTNER". WELL BY GOD I JUMPED UP AND SANG DAVID HOUSTON'S PART. IT WAS A HIT AND I HAVE A PHOTO TO PROVE IT.......GOD BLESS TAMMY ALWAYS FOR MAKING A DREAM COME TRUE FOR EVEN A FEW MINUTES. SHE WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE FIRST LADY OF COUNTRY MUSIC.
