Take My Hand
Tara Strong Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes you feel like nothing
I like to think of us and
You know that shadows always fade
Open your heart, that's where we start

Take my hand, and we can walk together
Across this land, or places we remember
I can't stand, when darkness takes your light away
I'm here no matter what they say

Some need to speak like tigers and try to scratch your soul
I like to soar like gliders and get you feeling whole
I get all your crazy ways
Open your heart, that's where we start

Take my hand, and we can walk together
Across this land, or places we remember
I can't stand when darkness takes your light away
I'm here no matter what they say

Only your eyes can see light, start to shine
I hear your song and your heart mixed with mine

Take my hand, and we can walk together
Across this land, or places we remember
I can't stand, when darkness takes your light away
I'm here no matter what they say

We'll sing the melody our way
Together everything's okay

Overall Meaning

In this song, Tara Strong is trying to reassure someone who feels lost and hopeless that she will be there for them through thick and thin. The first stanza suggests that the person she is talking to feels like nothing, but when they think of the two of them together, it gives hope that the shadows that are taking over will eventually disappear. The line "open your heart, that's where we start" encourages the person to open up and let her in, so they can start working on things together.

The chorus talks about walking together, with "across this land" or "places we remember" meaning that they can go anywhere and do anything together, either in the present or in memories of the past. The line "I'm here no matter what they say" reinforces the idea that Tara Strong will always be there for the person, and the darkness that is trying to take their light away will not win.

The second stanza is about different ways people try to cope with difficult situations. The line "some need to speak like tigers and try to scratch your soul" refers to people who become aggressive and try to bring others down. Conversely, "I like to soar like gliders and get you feeling whole" implies that Tara Strong believes in a more gentle approach, and tries to help heal the person in non-violent ways. The line "I get all your crazy ways / open your heart, that's where we start" suggests that Tara Strong understands the person in ways others might not, and that by opening their heart to her, they can begin to work on things.

In the final chorus, Tara Strong encourages the person to "sing the melody our way," implying that together they will create a new path forward, free from the darkness that once took away their light.
