I am returning to the 'gaming' world after around 30 years away and your enthusiasm is truly inspiring. I really want to get into the LOTR living card games as the artwork alone looks worth the price but it just looks so complicated! Smallworl however is a gem and I can't wait to get some of the expansions. We have got Munchkin and Gloom so far but are avidly watching your videos to see what else is out there! Take care....

1cogg I too was like that with the lord of the rings lcg. It certainly was a dive for me, but definitely worth it. If you get the game, definitely look at the watch it played tutorial, I did because I feel like I get more out of these. So I think that understanding the game isn't that hard. Winning the game is the hard part. And I've beaten the core set a few times and now I've just recently bought a couple of expansions. I'm keen to try small world!

I now have converted about 6 of my friends into playing and we tried to play Smallworld the other day but it was late and no one wanted to read the rules at the time so we passed on it this week. Thanks for this, and the rest of the 10 turn episodes. I had purchased Small World on the iPad, read the "tutorial" (quotes meant to imply sarcasm), and tried playing a few games. I had no clue what was going on. Your videos are fantastic, and do a great job of explaining the rules, and strategy. I will be using your videos to help teach my wife the game in the future. Nice late 70's/early 80's Risk box Rodney. Not nearly as cool as the 60's era bluish box without all those pesky goal cards like the ones today. And yes, you should teach them Risk just as soon as you remove your kids' abilities to roll awesome as they'll run over you pretty quickly right now. "I've never seen so many 6's," Rodney exclaimed as Luke takes control of N. America and Europe in a turn.:p

Very great explanation!!! I played it yesterday for the first time, with some friends. Their explanation was a bit different at some points. And I'm curious what the right thing to do actually is.

1) We just filled the gap in the list of races + special abilities with the 1 on top on the pile (after a player took one out of it). We didn't move them up.
2) We weren't allowed to choose the race + special ability that was on top of the pile.
3) We weren't allowed to conquer a zone that was only connected to the edge of the board through water.
4) At last we were wondering if you can go in decline with your active race, AFTER attacking with your ghouls.

Anyway. I won that first game yesterday! I played with 2 other players. At one point I got the Giants and I managed to conquer 4 mountains and several surrounding zones in two turns (I also had the dragon ability). The 3rd turn I send them in decline, ending with 8 zones with Giants, including 4 with mountains. The next turns I took many points from them, because they aren't easily taken over. This, and halflings with command, gave me an average of 13 points in the last 4 turns, ending with 104 points. But I don't know if that is alot or not. Anyway, I really want to play this game again soon and I will watch more of your vids to learn.

I have watched this video 2 times now. I read the rules yesterday and set up the game hoping to play. I was VERY baffled by the rules in quite a few places. It definitely takes me a while to understand new games. I found this video very easy to follow and helped with a few things I was unclear on. In order to begin playing I still have a couple of questions if somebody can clarify. When you do your "turn" do you conquer using all your men in several regions at once or do you conquer a region then the other player takes a turn until all are deployed? Basically, i'm wondering do you do everything in one go, or alternate from player to player through the 3 phases... any help would be greatly appreciated! :) Jasmine from New Zealand.

Question do the mountains serve as anything but a mental reminder? Feels as though placing them in the already marked mountain region is a little redundant do they get used in any other way? Also can you enter into an already occupied territory at the beginning of your turn? Great vid!

Chris Hill You roll the die first, then pick a region you want to conquer, and subtract the value of the die roll from what you are normally required to place. Placing a minimum of 1 token, of course. This can be used on empty spaces.

Bit late but I think you've got your rule near the end wrong. When your declined race has gone only the race goes to the bottom of the pile not the special ability. If the special abilities run out then you shuffle the discarded abilities (shuffling being the difference to what you did).

Well while you're here I was also wondering if you have any videos on the game "Munchkin"
Or Dungeons and dragons the role playing version and the dungeon crawlers.

I'm just starting to get into board games with my younger brother and sometimes the rule books get confusing!

Hey Kelly, I do my best to answer all rules related questions in these videos, but not for individual races and powers - just too hard for me to stay current with all those rules as well, with all the videos we do. You'll likely find help over on the games page at the BoardGameGeek website though!

***** It sure has! I must say I enjoy your videos so much. Not only because you explain the rules so thoroughly and then go through a whole gameplay step by step, also thoroughly, traits which I haven't found in any other channel, but also because it's so enjoyable to see you share your fun/work with your children, specially Luke who's still little and adorable haha (although his faces and gestures tell me he must be a handful =P ). Kudos to you from a Brazilian viewer and subscriber! =)

This video is odd compared to the ones I've recently watched...I'm new to board games. I was telling my wife just before this video how I liked this guy he takes a no nonsense approach to explaining these games. You proved me wrong in this video I couldn't tell if you where a will wheaton wannabe or what.

To be fair, this aired 6 months before Table Top existed. It took time for me to learn what worked best for the format of the show. Either way, your comment doesn't sound very well intended.

I'm a little confused. I'm thinkingg about this game, but I just watched this video and had 1 question. When do you pick new races, and how many races can you have at a time?

On your turn you can put your current race into decline, then on the next turn you pick a new race. You'll then have your new race and your I decline race. If you later put your "new" race into decline, you remove your previously declined race. So at most you have two races on the board at a time. One that's active and one that's in decline. Hope that helps.

P.S, I watched your 7 Wonders videos, I have always owned the game but never played it while understanding the rules. Your playthrough helped a whole lot! I played with my family and taught them how to play, even if they didn't completely understand. They started catching on though, and will probably understand by the next time we play. Thanks! And on a last note, for 7 Wonders, could you please do a small video on how to play the "Expert" 2 Player Variant? The rules weren't very clear.

About the sorcerers, may I conquer a region has one decline soldier by substituting? Or should be an active?

Another Q, if someone conquer all my regions and still some tokens alive, how can I replace them again after he finish conquering?

Hey Franz, the Sorceror can only replace an active soldier.

I'm not quite clear on your other question. If they conquered ALL of your regions, you wouldn't have any tokens alive, right?

Watch It Played I meant if I have last 3 Orcs "For example" and they are in one region . When someone attack me he will kill only one of them right? Then after his turn I have to replace the rest of them "two". I hope that clear.

Ah, I think you might be mistaking the work "place" with "replace" - no worries, I know what you mean now. After you've been attacked, if you have tokens in hand that you need to redeploy, but all your regions are conquered, then you add them to a border just as if they were a new race entering the board for the first time in the game. You need to conquer a border region with them. I hope that makes sense.
