In 1976, Teaze recorded a number of demo songs in hopes of securing a recording contract but the demos were so good they ended up being released as the debut self-titled Teaze album on a small local label. The record attracted the attention of Aquarius Records and the band were signed to a national recording contract.
Teaze relocated to Montreal where the debut album for the label, "On The Loose" was recorded and released in 1977 with producer George Lagios. The album featured ten songs mostly written by the band members that were mainly hard rock numbers except for one. The song " Sweet Misery" was a country and western styled ballad that became a hit for the band. While the song attracted radio attention and made Teaze stars, it was not the kind of publicity the band wanted. Teaze was a hard rock band and worked very hard on stage to live up to that reputation but the song "Sweet Misery" gave the public the wrong impression of the band's sound. Another single " Gonna Have A Good Time Tonite", an Easybeats cover, was released but failed to match the success of " Sweet Misery". The album would establish Teaze as one of Canada's top bands and would lead to a successful world tour and a recording contract in the U.S.A. .
Never Again

Running down me alley with my best friend
Him and me got trouble from the lost and
Never should have traveled his judgement
Can't find no escape it's just a dead end
All you ever give me was a
Kiss off the check
Never again my friend
Never again my friend
Wait a minute
Screaming bloody murder and I don't care
Believe me when I will you then I've been there
Look me in the eye you'll now I don't scare
Why are you always talking about what's fair?
All you ever give me was a
Kiss off the check
And a knife in the back, no, no
Never again my friend
Never again my friend
Roll me over
Make a fool of me and say it's too bad
Crying on my shoulder feeling so sad
Knowing that I'm not the kind to get mad
Kind of got the feeling that I've been had
All you ever give me was a
Kiss off the check
And a knife in the back, no, no
Never again my friend
Never again my friend
The lyrics to Teaze's song "Never Again" express the betrayal and disappointment of someone who feels hurt and used. The first verse describes a situation where the singer and their friend got into trouble, possibly due to the friend's poor judgement, and now they feel trapped with no way out. The first half of the chorus emphasizes the friend's lack of loyalty, only giving the singer a kiss off the check (meaning a mere token of love and appreciation) and a knife in the back (meaning betrayal).
The second verse continues with a confrontational tone, as the singer declares that they don't care about the friend's protests and have experienced similar feelings of hurt before. The singer challenges the friend's definition of fairness, perhaps implying that they have been treated unfairly. The chorus repeats, emphasizing once again the theme of never again trusting the friend who has betrayed them.
In the last verse, the singer implies that they have been played for a fool and the friend is now crying on their shoulder. Despite this, the singer is still unsatisfied, feeling that they are not the type to get angry but have still been taken advantage of. The chorus repeats once more, with an emphasis on never wanting to experience this pain and betrayal again.
Overall, the lyrics to "Never Again" show a deep sense of hurt and disappointment that stems from being betrayed by someone close. The repeated use of the phrase "never again my friend" underscores the idea that trust has been broken and the singer has resolved to never trust this person again.
