Wow is right! We get to see Ted do it 50 years later! How cool! I saw him about 12 years ago, and his voice was going out on him even then. No matter. It was a blessed joy to behold. @@SarahBeach-jm9jpas much as I absolutely LOVE Ted Neeley, and will argue with anyone till I'm blue in the face that he sings this song better than anybody else on the planet, those high notes are definitely overdubbed. I've watched this movie probably at least 50 times and played him singing this song even more! I've also watched the live version of JCS 4 times with him in it and although he still has an amazing voice, he can't hit those high notes the same way that he could when he was in his 20's. If you compare the original soundtrack version and then compare those high notes you'll see that it's identical. Similarly if you watch other videos of him singing this live you'll see that his voice definitely sounds older and more ragged. But I will still sing his praises no matter what because I'm totally in awe of him, both as an actor and singer, but also as a wonderful and kind human being. I've met him after each and every performance and he's truly got a heart of gold!

I was obsessed with this film in the 70s, listening to the soundtrack hundreds of times (always complete, from start to finish each time), and seeing the film whenever it was shown (VHS tape came out years later and was very expensive). I even made a trip to Israel in 1976 specifically to see the filming locations. I walked from Jerusalem to Bethlehem to Herodian to see it.

Mr. Neeley, Bravo. I saw this movie when it came out in the 1970's. I also saw you and the crew live at the local theatre centre in the 1990's. I remember some women were crying and didn't want to leave. I thank you for your part in what you have done to enlighten others.

I’ll never forget my mom surprising me with tickets for the live performance of Jesus Christ Superstar, in Santa Barbara. I can’t even guess how many times I’ve seen & shared it with others since that first time with my mom. Truly Blessed!

He captured my soul when it first came out, I watched the movie and still do to this day. To sing like that at almost 80 years old is not only amazing, I'd pay to see him back on stage in the role. Wow, kudos Ted Neely.

Dear Ted, I sit here with tears in my eyes listening to your powerful voice sing this song that has truly made such a difference in my life. I have always had such a strong faith and JCS has been an important part in that too. With all of the health issues I have suffered with over the years listening to you sing this song and for JCS being such an important part of my life has helped me. God is good. He has truly blessed you with an incredible voice and a loving and caring nature to help bring faith to thousands of people over the years. WOW. wow. wow. I'm absolutely blown away. I was 13 when this came out in 1973. I had the tremendously good fortune to see Mr. Neeley perform this live 20 years later (and meet him afterwards--he hugged me--smelled like heaven, but I digress.) His talent in "73, "93 and now in "23 is unsurmountable. I watch this movie every year on Good Friday and it still makes me cry. I'm so very glad I stumbled upon this video. I had no idea! I feel so very lucky to witness this. Ted, you are truly the GOAT.
