Ted Newman Lyrics

Plaything that's all I was to you
But now your little game is through
Playgirl stop talking at my door
I'm not your plaything anymore

Your love was only make believe
Some tricks you carried up your sleeve
I'm through
Don't need to walk the floor
I'm not your plaything anymore

I gave my love my all to you
Because I thought you loved me too
I wanted your love, yes all the way
But no not you
You wanted to play

Playgirl you're little plaything's gone
Gone out
To learn a different song by now
I'll see you nevermore
I'm not your plaything anymore

Plaything that's all I was to you
But now your little game is through
Playgirl stop talking at my door
I'm not your plaything anymore

Your love was only make believe
Some tricks you carried up your sleeve
I'm through
Don't need walk the floor
I'm not your plaything anymore

I gave my love, my all to you
Because I thought you loved me too
I wanted your love yes all the way
But no not you
You wanted to play

Playgirl you're little plaything's gone
Gone out
To learn a different song by now
I'll see you nevermore

I'm not your plaything
I'm not your plaything anymore

Overall Meaning

In the song "Plaything" by Ted Newman, the singer tells a tale of a relationship where he was treated like a toy by his partner. He sings about how he gave his all to their relationship, thinking it was reciprocal, but his partner only wanted to play around with him. He even refers to his partner as "playgirl" and suggests that she had some tricks and schemes up her sleeve to manipulate him. Despite all this, the singer has finally realized his worth and knows he deserves better than to be used as a plaything. He tells his former partner that he is no longer her plaything and has moved on to learn a different song.

The lyrics of "Plaything" convey a message about self-worth and the importance of standing up for oneself in a relationship. It encourages listeners to recognize when they are being taken for granted and to not settle for being someone's plaything. The song has a catchy tune, which contrasts with the message it conveys - the upbeat tune creates an ironic effect when combined with the lyrics' serious theme.

Ted played at "Dale Anderson's Other Place" in Scottsdale for many years. He was a big inspiration to me. He let me get up and play a few times. He saw me play in Elephant Butte, N.M. in the late 90's. I loved him dearly as a friend and as a wonderful singer and guitarist. I'd love to see him again.
