Congregation of the Righteous
Ted Pearce Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let Israel be glad in His maker
Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their king
Let them praise His name with dancing
Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and the lyre
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people
And He will bless the humble with Yeshua

Praise the Lord, sing to the Lord a new song
In the congregation of the righteous (repeat)

Let the saints rejoice in His glory
Let them sing for joy on their beds
Let the high praises of God be in their mouths
And the two-edged sword in their hands

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people
And He will bless the humble with Yeshua

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ted Pearce's song "Congregation of the Righteous" are full of joy and praises to God. It starts with calling Israel and the sons of Zion to rejoice in their Maker and King, and to praise Him with dancing, timbrel, and lyre. The song goes on to urge the saints to sing for joy in their beds, to have the high praises of God on their mouths, and to hold the two-edged sword in their hands. The reason for all this joy and praise is that the Lord takes pleasure in His people, and He will bless the humble with Yeshua (which means salvation or deliverance in Hebrew).

The lyrics of this song celebrate the closeness of the people of God to their Creator and His delight in them. It also emphasizes the importance of humble hearts and being in the congregation of the righteous, where people come together to rejoice and give thanks to the Lord. The imagery of dancing, singing, and holding the sword is symbolic of the various ways that people can praise God and fight for His cause.

I will call upon the Lord, in the name of Yerushalayim.

I think a better translation would be: Call upon the Name of the LORD, O Jerusalem
