… Read Full Bio ↴Tee Set was a Dutch beat band from the town of Delft, The Netherlands.
Founded in 1965, Tee Set was initially leaning towards rhythm & blues, but their music gradually became more 'poppy' from 1969 onwards (some of the early fans would call it 'slick'). Tee Set seemed to have disappeared by 1979, but resurfaced in 1983 and in the following years regularly performed at 'back to the sixties' festivals.
Between 1966 and 1979 fourteen Tee Set singles reached the Top 20 of the Dutch charts. Their biggest hit in The Netherlands was She Likes Weeds, but its success (#1 in Holland in 1970) was easily eclipsed by the international triumph of Ma Belle Amie, which peaked at #5 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In The Netherlands it was 'only' a #6 hit.
Tee Set was the earliest example of a 'Do It Yourself' attitude in Dutch music history: the band founded their own record label. All of their post-1967 releases were self-released on Tee Set Records, an unusual business model in the 1960s.
The band's line-up underwent many changes over the years. Frontman Peter Tetteroo (who died in 2002, aged 55) was the only permanent member.
The 1966 line-up that recorded the earliest hits fell apart in 1967: three band members (Hans van Eijck, Polle Eduard and English guitarist, Ray Fenwick) formed a new band, named After Tea. Tetteroo formed an entirely new Tee Set line-up. Hans van Eijck returned in 1969 and is the Tee Set member with the highest number of 'years in office' after Tetteroo.
If You Do Believe In Love

Nothing can change the love
That I give you any time of the day
But if you do believe in love
If you do believe in anything
If you do believe in love
Then you do believe in everthing
If you do believe in
You do believe in love
When you walk the streets on rainy afternoons
Carrying your soul with hate and love
Not believe in anymore, in promses of life
Raise your mind into a space
Then no-one ever fights the promises of life
Whatever the world may say
Nothing can change the love
That I give you any time of the day
But if you do believe in love
If you do believe in anything
If you do believe in love
Then you do believe in everthing
Lonely hours of the night crawling by
While you are waiting for the morning dawn
They seem to slip away and no one is in touch
There's always someone at your side
Who wants to carry as much
Who wants to carry as much
Whatever the world may say
Nothing can change the love
That I give you any time of the day
But keep it in, keep it in your head
And love me the way
Do it today like you loved me yesterday
Keep it in, keep it in your head
And love me the way
Do it today like you loved me yesterday
But if you do believe in love
If you do believe in anything
If you do believe in love
Then you do believe in everthing
If you do believe in love
You do believe in love
But if you do believe in love
If you do believe in anything
If you do believe in love
Then you do believe in everthing
If you do believe in love
You do believe in love
The lyrics to Tee Set’s song “If You Do Believe In Love” are a testament to the power of love. The singer expresses their unwavering love for someone, stating that nothing in the world can change the love they give at any time of the day. However, the singer implores the listener to believe in love, stating that if they do believe in anything, they should believe in love, as it encompasses everything. The lyrics then take a reflective turn, as the singer speaks of rainy afternoons and lonely nights, and encourages the listener to keep their love for them in their head, and to love them today as they did yesterday.
The message of the song is ultimately one of hope and faith in love, despite life’s challenges. The singer acknowledges that life can be difficult, but that love can conquer all. The repeated refrain of “if you do believe in love” emphasizes the importance of believing in something greater than oneself and that love is a powerful force that can change everything.
Overall, “If You Do Believe In Love” is a song that celebrates the transformative power of love and encourages the listener to hold on to the belief that love can conquer all.

I've gotten into this of late, I rather like it. It swings. I first heard it recently while watching an old American Bandstand rate a record segment. This is one of those tunes you have to hear a few times. It's not an instant grabber like "Ma Belle Amie".

I like this song a lot, but I'll bet it would have gone further without that awful Touch-Tone noise at 2:25.

Are you kidding? That's the hook that makes the song unique. It's a genius move.

Sounds like a bad Tom Jones song

This group actually had a huge hit with Ma Belle Amie. This one was awful.
