Afterglow
Teenage Wrist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lay your head down on me
I believe we made it out
Bury your head in my heart now
When its too loud
Take another ride and hold it in
Chemicals rise and grace your skin
Bury your head in my heart now
And take me down
We are hardly sober
Young, light, and over feeling low
When your heart is so hard
And you are all alone
All I need now
Is the light from the afterglow
All I see now
Is the smoke from the aftershow
All I need now
Is the light fromthe afterglow
All I see now
Its all I see, you're all I need
Lay your head down on me
I can see theres something else
Open your heavy eyes
I will lead you underground
Take another dive and wath me die
A blooming love a beautiful lie
Bury your head in my heart now
All I need now
Is the light from the afterglow
All I see now
Is the smoke from the aftershow
All I need now
Is the light from the afterglow

All I see now
Its all I see you're all I need

Overall Meaning

The song "Afterglow" by Teenage Wrist is an emotional and heartfelt ballad that explores the themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. The lyrics describe a relationship that has gone through its fair share of struggles, but has ultimately come out stronger on the other side. The lines "Lay your head down on me/I believe we made it out/Bury your head in my heart now" speak to the idea of finding comfort and solace in the person you love, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. The singer of the song is offering themselves as a place of refuge for their loved one, a safe haven where they can rest and recover from the world around them.

The chorus of the song repeats the lines "All I need now/Is the light from the afterglow/All I see now/Is the smoke from the aftershow", which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the aftermath of a difficult experience. The afterglow represents the positive and beautiful remnants of something that was once chaotic and painful, while the smoke represents the lingering effects of that pain. The singer is searching for the light in the darkness, hoping to find a way through the pain and into a brighter future.

In the second half of the song, the lyrics take on a more somber tone, with lines like "Take another dive and watch me die/A blooming love a beautiful lie" hinting at the possibility of heartbreak and betrayal. However, the chorus repeats once again, reinforcing the idea that even in the darkest of times, there is still hope to be found.

Overall, "Afterglow" is a beautifully written and deeply personal song that speaks to the struggles and triumphs of love, and the resilience of the human spirit.

Teenage Wrist is addicting and nostalgic. Takes me back to a little while ago when I went to nyc and when I left, I looked over the bridge with such sadness at the Manhattan skyline because I just love that city so damn and hate leaving it every time. This song brings that back.

Anyone else thinking this "side project" would make a fantastic return to post-punk if they kept playing for a few years?
