As someone who transfers from csgo to overwatch, I think tracer is straightforward to get into (fps background wise, but extremely hard to master. I have hundreds of hours on her but still can't measure the blink melee distance most of the time, so I just play without it.
There is a reaction time and aim threshold for her to go from easy to hard.
If you already reach the reaction time requirement and already have fps experience, you gonna do fine on her.
I quit overwatch and gaming in general for years because of work, then I came back for ow2, tracer going from being my main to being my worst hero, because I no longer have the same reaction time as before, plus I can't kill shit with her anymore.

Hardest part about tracer is hitting those pulse bomb. My tracer is pretty decent by itself but the pulse bomb is hands down the hard DPS skill to learn.

Tracer for me was very VERY easy to pick up; but then for some reason I got worse instead of better the more I played?

I’m amazing at her movement now, but my aim needs work. I love tracer because of her high skill floor and WAY higher skill ceiling; she’s one of the only characters who has 0 counters (besides a decent torb)

Sombra just has a "nope" button every time she is about to lose a fight,
Sure tracer has recall, but it isn't guaranteed to save you every time.
Sombra can easily get into the back line undetected with invisibility whereas tracer can easily be heard or seen.

Tracer has a high skill ceiling but many people struggle with her below top500 and only shine in the top rank, that usually tell you more about a hero's difficulty.

In high level play, majority of the pulse combos aren't Blink - Pulse, it's usually Pulse - Blink (however you have to have mastered her blink distance/range to be consistent) so the animation is quicker. Just minor shit like that will help people climb on their preferred hero(s).

The thing that makes her hard is her dmg output isn’t great, and there is just so much passive healing, instant healing, etc… so her dmg just can’t keep up. Especially when so many other dps’s have a finish or instant kill ability. It just doesn’t make her as viable.

fair enough. Most people here are tracer mains, they played her for hundred of hours, considering she has the highest potential, once you unlock the potential, you gonna steamroll your lobbies and just straight up rank up.
It's either steamrolling the enemy or being completely useless.
Other heroes have difficulty with their low ceilings. For example, Junkrat vs Widowmaker, Junkrat is easy to play and easy to get value for most players, but a top500 Widow will likely find Widow easier than Junkrat because they unlocked Widow's potential with their aim.

hell by this logic are harder then hitscan, Hanzos harder then Widow, Widow doesnt have to learn trajectory or master ricochets on her shots.

its not a very strong point to make, Tracer isnt "harder" in a vacuum, she demands more consistency to be at her best and even get value at all sometimes, and in addition to that because of the design of the character she has the potential to get value or interact with the game a lot more then other characters do.

its like you being told that you need to hit 5 bullseyes, but you get 50 shots, while i only have to land 2 bullseyes with 10 shots. But as a twist any shots we keep after the challlenge determine our prize. even if we are doing the same thing in most aspects, you have the capacity to make more attempts and get substantially more rewards.

what needs to be done hasnt changed fundamentally, you just get more chances to do it but at the same time also need to maintain your consistency for it to matter

The reason she has an easy kit but is hard to master is simply her health, her break points force her to be alot more cautious, but her kit is very forgiving to make up for that, I mean I main echo and have like maybe 2 hours on tracer yet whenever I copy a tracer I find I get crazy good value and often get 1 or 3 pulse bombs, does this mean shes easy? No because echos ult let's you be aggressive and not need to be as smart with your engage as you essentially are a flying tracer when you start your play but I think it does show how easy her actual mechanics are that I still feel I'm bad at landing shots in the air as echo while being able to land 2 or 3 pulse bombs inna row and blink around fairly well with very little tracer experience.

I mean if they ever Increased tracers hp to 200 she would bascially be brain dead, with a crazy high skill ceiling and would dominate the game, but dont get me wrong she takes more skill most the dps just I see people say shes the hardest hero mechanically and I just dont think that's true, genji and echo are definitely harder while ball and doom are just next level lol

@Jason Mension A good used echo copy makes any characters mechanics easy because there is not much pressure to actually be good at them. 180 blinks isn't exactly hard, what's hard is blinking to cover and avoiding shots for as much as possible before having to Blink so you can get a 4th and even 5th Blink before having to recall or get out.

Other than genji, I really only ever played echo in ow1 and it was surprisingly easy to use any of the other heroes mechanically. Once I actually played them I realized I wasn't as good at them as I thought.

@ecciqBeing careful=Taking only fights you know you can win. You should be able to win any DPS/Support 1v1 by outdamaging the other player and being impossible to hit consistently. You still do something, you just aren't getting focused by multiple people and dying instantly to your low health pool.

Mastering is part of learning in order to play well. Her kit may be simple to UNDERSTAND, but she is hard to learn. As said in this video. How the blink misaligned his aiming and he had to adjust to those micro adjustments , while dealing with being one shotted by almost anything in the game, to learning how to manage his ult pattern.. blink pattern and engagement styles.. yeah okay she is easy to learn 🤣

Tracer is the only hero I've ever really played in Overwatch. She's hard at the beginning but she's not as bad as people make her out to be. I went from bronze to just under master exclusively playing her. The worst part about her is definitely her health imo. The fun factor makes up for it tenfold though, going from tracer and playing any other character makes overwatch feel 10x more boring.

Try ball. Tracer doesn't seem to be very strong anymore (queue the entire community telling me I'm wrong).

As a former 1000+ hour Tracer main, ball is a refreshing fun hero. Takes quite a bit of skill to get value, but no-one tilts players like he does and you no longer have to worry about random spam killing you.

@Auswa The problem is there are too many one shots (specifically to tracer). Hanzo, Mei, kirko, reaper, orissa, hog and I'm missing one. Plus there are a lot of instant combos like junkrat, orisa, etc.) I'm not saying she isn't useful, but she can't carry. She requires a decent team who can make use of disruption. Until master+ she is very weak unless you have near perfect accuracy.. in which case Cree, hanzo, widow, soujpurn, etc. can add more value to all but the very best teams.

I'm not saying Tracer needs buffed, only that she isn't very useful until masters+ which houses the top 10% of players (I'm getting close, but doubtful I reach there with my limited time to play)

@Kyle Specht Hanzo shouldn't be hitting you unless you don't know he's there. Same for Mei. Kiriko can't one shot you. Reaper has other targets that he'd be more useful going for. Orisa is a Tank and needs to be fighting the other Tank to be useful. Hog shouldn't ever hook you unless you don't know he's there.

Tracer not being useful until high ranks doesn't mean she isn't good, it means she's hard to get value out of. And no character should be strong enough to carry in a team based game.

Ow2 absolutely punishes tanks and ps who don't focus everything BUT tank until support go down. The only time Orisa (or any tank) should be focusing the opposing tank is when enough support has dropped to finish support. A mercy pretty much negates killing tank unless the tank doesn't use any form of cover.

You've obviously never played Tracer against a decent kirko, because she absolutely can spam a backlining tracer down. Tracer has become like MOST other dps. Useful against veryain comps, but easily countered. I suppose this eas by design, since basically every character is easily countered.

Ow2 hasn't become a game of raw skill, it has become a game of counters + ultimate balance.

Tracer herself is a simple character and not difficult. The hard part about her is learning how to properly position yourself so that you don’t get wiped out with your tiny 150 health bar. The most difficult part about her kit for many people is her ultimate since Pulse Bomb is pretty tough to land consistently.

Is it just me or is tracer REALLY easy? I tried her out for the FIRST time and stomped. 'her pulse bombs are so hard to stick' bruh just teleport on top of the tank and ult. It's not that hard.

her kits are straightforward, you have 3 blinks, 1 recall, 1 bomb, and need to be close range to deal damage.
Okay, Let's make it more complicated. Now try to measure the blink distance, 180 while aiming, and the only Q button that missed more than half the time, and if you don't blink/recall on time, you are the only hero that can get 1 tap, 1 combo within seconds while you're wasting time trying to kill your target because your tracking is not consistent enough to 1 clip anyone- all because you don't want to break your wrist so your sens is very high.

The bottom line, there are other heroes that can do better than tracer for less effort, she's good for the top 500 because they eat and sleep with this game.

why is tracer easier on console?

i’ve played on PC and console, and i noticed that on console it’s easier to aim when blinking around. (Yes, i know aim assist is a thing, but it’s a minuscule difference, and i have my AA turned off because it fucked me over more than help me)

I don’t think she is. Not at a higher level anyways. One of her most crucial moves is to turn mid blink so that you’re already facing you opponent after your blink. That’s a lot harder on console because even at 100 sensitivity, it just doesn’t move fast enough. You’re stuck turning after the blink instead of during it

as a tracer player I can testify the she's not that hard to play, it's a matter of timing, gamesense and map knowledge, so it's probably not the best choice to start overwatch but spend a couple hours playing her and you'll get better in no time

It depends on the character that you are fighting against. It's not gonna help you against a soldier for example. But you should do it against Cassidy
