The idea for the project began one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing tennis in college. A year later the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their experiences. The Longboat Pass Songfacts reports that the pair eventually recorded their songs. The resulting album, Cape Dory, is about their time on the seas, the majority of the tracks being about the difficulties they experienced during their trip.

2. Australian Indie band containing two brothers, two cousins and a mystery bass player. Tennis have left the halcyon days of art school behind in pursuit of the perfect musical storm. Tennis played their first gig at a strip club in Surry Hills circa ’06, simultaneously debuting in Sydney’s indie and adult entertainment scenes.
Pursuing the former rather than the latter, Tennis have since graced the stages of many more credible venues, supporting the likes of; Matt & Kim(USA), The Ruby Suns(NZ), Wolf and Cub, Children Collide, Lost Valentinos, Tame Impala and The Holidays. You could have me for ten years
I could lose you in the hours
I could lose you in the tears, oh
The feeling's lost without you, oh my baby
Without you, oh my love
The feeling's gone completely
Those who measure time and distance
Haven't known a love like mine
There is only perfect closeness
Don't you leave it all behind
The feeling's lost without you, oh my baby
Without you, oh my love
The feeling's gone completely
The feeling's lost without you, oh my baby
Without you, oh my love
The feeling's gone completely
Oh, the feeling's lost without you, oh my baby
Without you, oh my love
I lose myself completely, oh
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
What have I got without you?
You could have me for ten minutes
You could have me for ten years
We are only single moments
Strung together and held dearly
The lyrics to Tennis's song "10 Minutes 10 Years" convey a deep sense of attachment and dependence on someone in a relationship. The singer is pleading with their partner, stating that they are willing to give themselves fully for a short period of time or even a long period of time. However, they also express a fear of losing the other person, whether it be in just a few hours or in the tears they shed. The repetition of "without you, oh my love" emphasizes the singer's vulnerability and their belief that they are incomplete without their partner.
The second verse further emphasizes the depth of the singer's love, suggesting that their connection transcends conventional measures of time and distance. They assert that their love is characterized by perfect closeness, a rare and profound experience that others may not understand. The plea to "not leave it all behind" reflects the singer's fear of being abandoned and losing that unique bond they share.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of feeling lost without the partner and losing oneself completely. It is evident that the singer's entire sense of self and purpose revolves around their relationship with this person. The repetition of "What have I got without you?" further emphasizes their dependence and questions the significance of their existence without the other person.
Finally, the closing lines of the song bring a sense of perspective. Despite the intensity of their feelings, the singer recognizes that their time together, whether it's just ten minutes or ten years, are all single moments strung together and cherished dearly. This suggests an awareness of the impermanence of life and relationships and the need to appreciate what they have in the present.
