The idea for the project began one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing tennis in college. A year later the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their experiences. The Longboat Pass Songfacts reports that the pair eventually recorded their songs. The resulting album, Cape Dory, is about their time on the seas, the majority of the tracks being about the difficulties they experienced during their trip.
There other artists with the same name:
2. Australian Indie band containing two brothers, two cousins and a mystery bass player. Tennis have left the halcyon days of art school behind in pursuit of the perfect musical storm. Tennis played their first gig at a strip club in Surry Hills circa ’06, simultaneously debuting in Sydney’s indie and adult entertainment scenes.
Pursuing the former rather than the latter, Tennis have since graced the stages of many more credible venues, supporting the likes of; Matt & Kim(USA), The Ruby Suns(NZ), Wolf and Cub, Children Collide, Lost Valentinos, Tame Impala and The Holidays. Their colliding beats, wild rhythms, melodic vocals and stark atmospheres meld into a festive music de force driving listeners into a sweaty rapture.

Dimming Light

Graceful, you move beneath the living room
I know it's you
A vision I held in the night
Of rivers that run dry
Although you're lyin' next to me
I know that you're not mine
Is it even enough to know what you're lookin' for?
Is it ever enough to have what you're waitin' for? ah ah ah aah
When the night comes we will be restored
You're the one that I love
Silently you slip through the way
Graceful, you move beneath the living room
I know it's you
If I could fall on any phrase
Or hold a steady gaze
And maybe you'd appeared to me
Transparent as the day
Is it ever enough to know what you're lookin' for?
Is it ever enough to have what you're waitin' for? ah ah ah aah
When the night comes we will be restored
You're the one that I love Oh oh oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
The lyrics of "Dimming Light" by Tennis suggest a sense of longing and mystery as the singer describes a person who slips through the room silently and gracefully. The singer knows who it is, but there is an underlying feeling of uncertainty and perhaps even sadness. The opening lines of the song set the tone, as they describe this person moving through the living room, almost like a ghost. The singer says "I know it's you," which suggests that this person is familiar to them, but there is still an air of secrecy and hiddenness.
The chorus of the song speaks to a profound question - is it ever enough to have what you're waiting for? The singer is questioning whether or not the things they are seeking will provide true fulfillment. They want this person they love to be with them, but they are acutely aware that even if they are lying next to them, they may not truly be theirs. There is a sense of yearning for a deep connection, but also an acknowledgement that it may not be possible. The lines "When the night comes we will be restored / you're the one that I love" hint at a certain hope, that perhaps in the safety of the night, they can find the connection they are seeking. In the end, the song remains both uncertain and hopeful, as though the singer is caught between what they want and what they know they may never truly have.
