The idea for the project began one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing tennis in college. A year later the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their experiences. The Longboat Pass Songfacts reports that the pair eventually recorded their songs. The resulting album, Cape Dory, is about their time on the seas, the majority of the tracks being about the difficulties they experienced during their trip.

2. Australian Indie band containing two brothers, two cousins and a mystery bass player. Tennis have left the halcyon days of art school behind in pursuit of the perfect musical storm. Tennis played their first gig at a strip club in Surry Hills circa ’06, simultaneously debuting in Sydney’s indie and adult entertainment scenes.
Pursuing the former rather than the latter, Tennis have since graced the stages of many more credible venues, supporting the likes of; Matt & Kim(USA), The Ruby Suns(NZ), Wolf and Cub, Children Collide, Lost Valentinos, Tame Impala and The Holidays. Their colliding beats, wild rhythms, melodic vocals and stark atmospheres meld into a festive music de force driving listeners into a sweaty rapture.

Tell Her No

And if she tempts you with her charms
Tell her no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no
Don't hurt me now for her love belongs to me
And if she tempts you with her charms
Tell her no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Don't take her love for your arms)
No, no, no, no, no
Don't hurt me now for her love belongs to me
I know she's the kind of girl
Who'd throw my love away
But I still love her so
Don't hurt me now, don't hurt me now
If she tells you "I love you"
Just remember she said that to me
Tell her no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Don't take her love for your arms)
No, no, no, no, no
Don't hurt me now for her love belongs to me.
The lyrics to Tennis's "Tell Her No" are a plea to a potential love interest, urging them to resist the advances of a woman who belongs to someone else. The singer knows that the woman in question might use her charms and try to lure the object of their affection away, but they implore them with a series of repeated "no's" to refrain from falling under her spell. The singer's fear and insecurity about losing their partner is palpable, and they acknowledge that the woman they love might be the type to "throw their love away" - but that doesn't change the singer's need to keep them close. In a final warning, the singer reminds the other person that if the woman tells them "I love you," they should remember that she said the same thing to the singer - thus reinforcing their claim on her affections.
The song's message is one of possessiveness and jealousy, but it's tempered by a sense of vulnerability and woundedness. The singer knows that their love might not be enough to keep the other person from straying, but they remain resolute in their desire to protect what's theirs. The repetition of "no" underscores this urgency, while the lingering doubts in the singer's mind add a layer of complexity to the emotions being expressed. Ultimately, "Tell Her No" is a song about the lengths we'll go to in order to hold onto the things we value most, even when we know they might slip away from us.
