Chain
The 3rd and the Mortal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Behold the dream that makes you forget
That a time passes by
Tried to call
But the eyes, they pray, pray for them

Oh man, confess your sins and sorrows
It's been years since last time you eased the pain
Loose those ropes and chains that hold you in silence
Break that wall of denial, that shadows, your shadow

Seems like the streets await for them
Loathing you and praying for them
Seems like the streets await for them
Loathing

Regretting the grief I caused and victims
Trying hard to make up and please them
The days will come back and they forgive me the sinning
Building walls of denial, that shadow, my shadow

Behold the dream that makes you forget
That a time passes by
Trying to call
But the eyes are praying; pray for them

Seems like the streets await for them
Loathing you and praying for them

Seems like the streets await for them
Loathing

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The 3rd and the Mortal's song "Chain" depict a struggle with regretful memories and the desire to escape them. The opening lines illustrate the powerful nature of dreams that can cause a person to forget the passage of time. The singer is trying to call out to someone, but their eyes are pleading for forgiveness, suggesting a deep sense of guilt.

The second verse addresses the internal conflict of the singer confessing their sins and sorrows after years of avoidance. They are urging themselves to break free from the "ropes and chains" holding them in silence and deny the shadows of their past. However, the streets seem to await them with loathing, indicating that the singer may not be able to escape the repercussions of their past actions.

The chorus repeats the opening lines, emphasizing the theme of memories and the struggle to move past them. The song's poignant imagery and emotional depth make it a powerful representation of the human experience.

This plus the "Sorrow" EP are for me great milestone masterpieces not only of Metal Music but Music more generally....I'd like to see more "Reaction" videos (very trendy, but some reviewers are great & know what they're talking about) about them, to make this more well know & I'm posting recommandations about it here & there....I'm happy though that Kari is still holding this magic torch when she tours with "The Sirens" band (I had the chance to see one time live a few years ago, performing some of these songs !) Doom metal classic... Scandinavian bands are truly unique and special. Not only The 3rd And The Mortal, but also Theatre Of Tragedy, Tristania and The Sins Of Thy Beloved
