It's a bright day
Even when you stand in the dark
It's just that
You've been broken into fifty pieces
Today is gone
I'm the only light that you see
You need someone
Everyday we wake if it takes too long
Just tell me something new
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
Another pale moon
Shines like high noon
Midnight never felt so cold alone
It's just that you're uneasy
When you need me
Today is gone
I'm the only light that you see
You need someone
I know all you needed was me
Everyday we wake if it takes too long
Just tell me something new
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
You can say it's right, but it feels so wrong
Just show me something true
Forget about the sunshine
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
Today is gone
I'm the only light that you see
You need someone
I know all you needed was me
Everyday we wake if it takes too long
Just tell me something new
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
You can think it's right, but it feels so wrong
Just show me something true
Forget about the sunshine
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
Everyday we wake if it takes too long
Just tell me something new
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
You can think it's right, but it feels so wrong
Just show me something true
Forget about the sunshine
Forget about the sunshine when it's gone
The All-American Rejects' song "Sunshine" explores themes of longing and the need for companionship. The song speaks to the idea that sometimes in life we feel broken, perhaps even into "fifty pieces," and need someone to illuminate our darkness. The singer of the song is offering themselves as that person, stating that they are the only light that the other person can see. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and desperation, with the repeated chorus urging the other person to forget about the sunshine when it's gone and focus instead on finding something new and true.
There is also a sense of melancholy in the song, with mentions of pale moons and midnight feeling "so cold alone." The singer recognizes that sometimes we feel uneasy, and that is when we need someone the most. They declare that they know all the other person needed was them, suggesting that they are deeply connected and perhaps even meant to be together. Overall, "Sunshine" is a poignant and introspective track that speaks to the complexities of human emotion and the need for intimacy and connection.
