According to his web site, Branch has been ministering Christian gospel since 1991. He states that his desire is "to be a model and a messenger of the gospel’s transforming power especially (but not exclusively) among the hip-hop generations."
Branch received a bachelor's degree in Bible from Lancaster Bible College and has a master's degree in theology from the Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). His master’s thesis, "Theological Implications of Hip-Hop Culture", provided the inspiration for his solo album, The Thesis.
The Anthem
The Ambassador Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of The Ambassador's song The Anthem express the rapper's desire to bring the message of God to everyone through the medium of hip-hop. He acknowledges that not everyone may be willing to receive the message or believe in it, and that some people may be fearful or troubled by the struggle for salvation. However, he believes that everyone can benefit from the message and the power of God, and implores his audience to pay homage to the divine force that can change their lives for the better.
The lyrics also contain wordplay and metaphorical references to various aspects of hip-hop culture, such as "everybody's spita" (referring to rappers or MCs), "everybody's grita" (shouting, cheering or hype vocals), and "everybody's jidend" (referring to people who are pretending or faking it). These references serve to connect the message of God to the broader cultural phenomenon of hip-hop, making it more accessible and relatable to those who may not be familiar with traditional religious or spiritual teachings.
