I Ran
The Angry Kids Vs. A Flock of Seagulls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I walk along the avenue
I never thought I'd meet a girl like you
Meet a girl like you

With auburn hair and tawny eyes
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through
Hypnotize me through
And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away

A cloud appears above your head
A beam of light comes shining down on you
Shining down on you

The cloud is moving nearer still
Aurora Borealis comes in view
Aurora comes in view

And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away

Reached out a hand to touch your face
You're slowly disappearing from my view
'Pearing from my view

Reached out a hand to try again
I'm floating in a beam of light with you
Beam of light with you

And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day

And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I couldn't get away

And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day

And I ran

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "I Ran" by The Angry Kids Vs. A Flock of Seagulls are about a man who meets a girl with auburn hair and tawny eyes on the avenue. He is immediately entranced by her hypnotizing eyes and later, a beam of light shines down on her, giving her an otherworldly aura. As the man reaches out to touch her face, she slowly disappears from his view before suddenly reappearing in a beam of light. The man is left feeling as though he is running away from her and cannot escape his fascination with her.

The lyrics paint a dreamlike picture of a man's encounter with a girl who seems almost supernatural in her attractiveness. The use of Aurora Borealis imagery further adds to the ethereal nature of the encounter, giving the impression that the man is experiencing something out of this world. The repetition of the line "I ran" emphasizes the man's feeling of being overwhelmed and unable to escape the girl's grasp on him.

One interesting fact about "I Ran" is that it was the biggest hit for A Flock of Seagulls, reaching the top ten in several countries. In addition, the distinctive hairstyle of the band's lead singer, Mike Score, became known as the "Flock of Seagulls cut" and was mimicked by many fans. The song has also been featured in several movies and TV shows, including The Wedding Singer and Breaking Bad.
