West of Venus
The song "53 Miles West of Venus" by The B-52's is a playful and somewhat mysterious track about a location in space that lies 53 miles west of the planet Venus. The repeating lyrics seem to suggest a sense of distance and perhaps even a longing to reach this place beyond the reach of our own planet. The song is accompanied by a funky bassline, catchy guitar riffs, and the distinct vocal stylings of the B-52's.
One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that they are a metaphor for the desire to explore the unknown and push past our limits. The idea of traveling 53 miles west of Venus is a kind of unattainable goal that represents the human desire to explore beyond what we know. It's a reminder that there is always something new to discover and explore, and that we should always strive to learn more about the universe around us.

4:10. Ricky's guitar playing right here is superb. He would take strings off his guitar and use weird, oddball tunings to get just the sound he wanted. Genius.

I've always told people he is a very underrated guitarist, R.I.P Ricky Wilson 😎👌👍

personally, I think a musician who wants to create something full of life and energy can find no finer influence than this era of post-punk/new-wave from the 70s and 80s.
I grew up on on 80s/90s/00s 'punk rock' etc etc and it wasn't until post-punk that my own playing had any expression.
While the vast majority of a lot of this earlier stuff lacks the tempo of the stuff that used to get me going, it more than makes up for that with feeling and uninhibited artistic, emotional and political expression.
