Silhouette
The Backseat Lovers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wait
Wait for the day
Stay
Stay for the pain
Run
Run while you can
While you are still a silhouette of a man

Overall Meaning

The Backseat Lovers's song Silhouette talks about waiting, staying and running in different aspects of life. The first line "Wait, wait for the day" could be interpreted as waiting for something significant to happen in one's life. It could mean holding on to hope for a better tomorrow, even when things look bleak. The next line, "Stay, stay for the pain," could imply that even in difficult times, it's important to hold on and endure the pain. This suggests that the temporary discomforts will eventually clear the way for a better outcome. The line "Run, run while you can" is particularly interesting, as it calls out to the listener to take action before it's too late. This could be interpreted as running away from a problem or chasing a dream before it's too late.

Perhaps the most striking line in the song is the last one - "While you are still a silhouette of a man." It serves as a reminder that life is transient and fleeting, and one must make the most of it while they can. The metaphor of a silhouette can be interpreted in several ways - it could mean that the singer is referring to someone who hasn't fully matured, or it could mean that life is like a shadow, constantly moving and changing. Either way, it showcases the importance of seizing the moment and making the most of what we have.

This band is just bonkers. After listening to Waiting To Spill a dozen times, I still can't fathom how they go from Radiohead to Coldplay, to The Beatles, to the Gorillas, to the Pixies, to Pink Floyd, and between and back again. It's everything historically classic we love and know about unadulterated rock with TBL's modern-day Midas touch. Generational talent no doubt! Lyrically and musically these dudes simply slay the sound......

I really love everything about this. The ending with the sound of cars passing by maybe near a highway sounds like a movie scene. A scene of two people standing on maybe a bridge above the highway. Watching eachother while their ears are getting deafened by the sound of the highway. They might have been through many things together and now they are running away. Away from the pain. The beginning and the ending seem both the same with the instruments but are still different, just as the story might be

I could write whole stories about this just by listening to the music
