The Beaches Lyrics

They tried to take me back to my boyfriend
Said honey you're sublime if only you'd respect yourself sometimes
Get help Go home Get under your boyfriend
'Cause don't you know, don't you know
That it's alright
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment
Smirnoff and saltines under the station
My legs are stronger when they are shakin'
Fevered visions of my life, color me in all your fire
Leave me alone with my reputation
'Cause don't you know, don't you know
That it's alright
Livin' in the moment
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment
'Cause it's alright
Livin' in the moment
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment
You don't wanna miss out on the moment, on the moment
In "Moment" by The Beaches, the lyrics delve into the theme of being present and embracing the current moment, despite outside influences or societal expectations. The first verse begins with the singer acknowledging that there are people trying to distract or influence her, pulling her away from the present moment and back to her boyfriend. The suggestion is made that she should change herself, respect herself, seek help, and conform to conventional expectations of being under her boyfriend's control.
However, the chorus reveals the singer's defiance and refusal to succumb to these pressures. She asserts that she is content and comfortable with living in the moment. She compares herself to sunshine, representing brightness and positivity, and admits that she is both open and broken, implying vulnerability but also resilience. Essentially, she is declaring that she is fine just the way she is and that she cherishes every single moment, highlighting the importance of fully experiencing and embracing the present.
In the second verse, the singer describes a scene involving Smirnoff (a type of alcohol) and saltines (crackers) under a station. This suggests a rebellious and spontaneous moment of indulgence and breaking away from societal norms. She states that her legs are stronger when they shake, indicating that she finds strength in embracing the uncertain and taking risks. The "fevered visions" of her life symbolize the passionate aspirations and desires she has, and she invites others to color her world with their fire. She also asks to be left alone with her reputation, indicating that she is unapologetic about her choices and actions.
The chorus is repeated again, reaffirming the singer's defiance and determination to live in the moment. She reiterates the idea that she is sunshine, open, and broken, accepting her flaws and embracing her vulnerability. Each moment is cherished and shouldn't be missed out on.
Overall, the lyrics of "Moment" by The Beaches convey the message of valuing and embracing the present moment, regardless of outside influences or societal expectations. The singer asserts her independence, challenges conventions, and emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and wholeheartedly experiencing life in its entirety.
