The Blackout Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is there a way to catch you?
You move with a bold intention
You move with a bold intention
I threw it away
Turned it down and put the radio up
I threw it away
Shot down
Who's laying down these days
Who's keeping score these days
Hope you
Can see
All the progress we can make
Pencil in the words we left unsung
We can spread what the friction's done
Hope you
Can see
All the progress we can make
Speak soft and wait can you hear it now
I see a new part of you
In the song "Radio" by The Blackout, the lyrics express a feeling of loss and being left behind. When the singer says "You took flight and left my hands still tied," it gives the impression of someone who has lost something without having any control over the situation. Despite this, the lyrics hint at the possibility of catching up and making progress by saying "Hope you can see all the progress we can make." The bold movement of the person who left is noted, and it seems like something that can be learned from rather than pitied.
The chorus lines "I threw it away, turned it down and put the radio up" suggest that the singer is trying to move on and drown out any negative thoughts or feelings. The line "Shot down" adds an element of finality to this action. The following lines question who is taking action and making a difference instead of being passive, and urges the listener to take part in progress.
The bridge of the song takes on new imagery, where the singer uses a pencil to write unsung words and spread the message of progress through friction. The lyrics "speak soft and wait" suggest a sense of patience and anticipation, and the possibility of discovering something new about someone. Overall, the song promotes the idea of moving forward despite setbacks, learning from bold movements, and being actively involved in progress.
