The lyrics to The Blue Hearts song Chance express a carefree and adventurous approach to life. The opening line ("never before, never again, like no one else has ever done") suggests a desire to live life uniquely and to embrace opportunities. The singer invites listeners to swim like a fish and imagines the enjoyment of a girl becoming a fish too. The lyrics then turn to a more reflective tone with the acknowledgement that everyone will experience rain, but sometimes good opportunities come unexpectedly. It is within these moments of uncertainty that the singer encourages listeners to take a chance.
The second half of the song describes a lazy day and a simple pleasure of drinking cold beer while having a conversation. The lyrics reminisce about a friend in America and their trip to Italy, suggesting that these moments are important and should be cherished. The final verse encourages listeners to embrace the present and to enjoy the wind blowing today because the future is uncertain.
