Why Did You Go
The Bobbi-Pins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby won't you tell me why there is sadness in your eyes
I don't wanna say goodbye to you
Love is one big illusion I should try to forget
but there is something left in my head
You're the one who set it up now you're the one to make it stop
I'm the one who's feeling lost right now
Now you want me to forget every little thing you said
but there is something left in my head
I won't forget the way you're kissing
The feeling's so strong were lasting for so long
But I'm not the man your heart is missing
That's why you go away I know
You were never satisfied no matter how I tried
Now you wanna say goodbye to me
Love is one big illusion I should try to forget
but there is something left in my head
I won't forget the way you're kissing
The feeling's so strong were lasting for so long
But I'm not the man your heart is missing
That's why you go away I know
Sitting here all alone in the middle of nowhere
Don't know which way to go
There ain't so much to say now between us
There ain't so much for you
There ain't so much for me anymore
I won't forget the way you're kissing
The feeling's so strong were lasting for so long
But I'm not the man your heart is missing

That's why you go away I know
That's why you go away I know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Bobbi-Pins's song "Why Did You Go?" speak to the hurt of lost love, the confusion of feeling sadness and longing while also recognizing that love can be a deceptive, illusory force. The singer is lamenting the fact that the person they loved has left them, and although they understand that they should try to forget this person and move on, there is still a lingering feeling that they cannot shake. The singer reflects on how strong their love was, how they will not forget the way their former lover kissed them, and struggles to understand why the relationship did not work out.

The lines "Love is one big illusion I should try to forget but there is something left in my head" highlight the theme of disillusionment in love, and how it can be difficult to fully let go of someone or something that once had such a strong grip on our emotions. The sense of being lost and unsure of what to do next is captured in the final lines "Sitting here all alone in the middle of nowhere/Don't know which way to go," emphasizing the melancholy tone of the song.

Overall, "Why Did You Go?" is a powerful ode to lost love that captures the confusion and pain of heartbreak, as well as the difficulty of letting go of a powerful emotion.

My Mom Cherie Rickman was in this group R.I.P. and God Bless!

I had the great fortune to know all of the music group, I lived with my Aunt Linda, grandmother & grandfather, my family and the girls would sometimes practice at our home. Sometimes. I was a junior chaperone, because they did those things back then, and my mother was the driver and chaperone for the Bobbi-Pins when they drove to Cleveland for auditions.

It's fantastic to hear this! I'm from Chillicothe and consider myself a local music historian. My hometown has had a wealth of talent for many years and the Bobbi-Pins are one of a number of local groups who had near-misses with fame.
