The Boneshakers' eclectic style is a reflection of Jacobs wide-ranging musical experience, which began in Detroit at the age of 13. Jacobs' first professional gigs were with some of Motown's leading artists, including Sylvia Moy, Barrett Strong, and Don Davis. While working with former Miles Davis bassist Michael Henderson, Jacobs showed he had a gift for songwriting when he co-authored the Top-Five R&B hit, "Wide Receiver."

I don`t care ha about your past
I just want ho our love to last dee
I don`t care darlin` about your faults huh
I just want to satisfy your pulse
Oh
When you kiss me
When you mess me
Hold my hand
Make me understand
I break out - in a cold sweat
Ho! Uh! Ho!
I don`t care about your wants
I just wanna ha! tell ya about the does and don`ts
I don`t care about the way you treat me darlin` ha!
I just want huh! to understand me honey
Oh
When you kiss me
And ya miss me
You hold me tight
Make everything all right
I break out - in a cold sweat heh!
Mercy on me
C`mon now

Aww
Let him have it
uh!
Awww!
The Bone Shakers's song "Cold Sweat" is a passionate declaration of love that doesn't judge the past or worry too much about the future. The lyrics express the desire for a lasting love that is not hindered by the faults or treatment of one's partner. The singer simply wants to feel the pulse and satisfy it. It is a call for mutual understanding and acceptance of each other as they are.
The repetition of "When you kiss me" and "Hold my hand, make me understand" emphasizes the importance of physical touch and emotional support in the relationship. These actions help the singer to break out in a cold sweat, possibly indicating the intensity of their passion or the vulnerability they feel around their partner. The seemingly uncontrolled outburst of emotion could also represent the risks that come with being in love.
The addition of the lines "Mercy on me" and "Let him have it" towards the end of the song adds a spiritual tone, as if the singer is asking for forgiveness, guidance, or a leap of faith from a higher power. The song's dynamic rhythm, funky bass line, and James Brown-inspired grunts and yells create a sense of urgency and excitement that compliment the lyrics.
