Dead End Cruisin'
The Bones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm lying in the backseat of my
broken down Chevrolet
Well I lost it all in one blackout night
and my baby just walked away
I'm out of cash,
once again I'm out of luck
Yeah I'm a dead and cruiser,
gotta pay my dues
I sold my soul for a buck
Gotta hang on tight, the radio is playing
a really sick song

Back off, get lost
No more sweat blood or tears for you
Don't wanna see your ugly face
Back off, get lost
I sing that outlaw lovesong
But not for you so stay away

I'm looking back, I'm thinking about the
good times that I've had
I had that girl wrapped around my arm,
baby that wasn't bad
Cool tattoos, rock'n'roll weekend fools
Chevy, crome, the sick boys ruled,
neverending dead end cruise
The country moon shines, the radio is
playing a really sad song

Back off, get lost
No more sweat blood or tears for you
Don't wanna see your ugly face
Back off, get lost
I sing that outlaw lovesong
But not for you so stay away

I'm heading for losers universe,
I just can't get it right
I'm still out of money,
I'm still out of cash
Yet another blackout night
Losing time, Roswell time alright
I'm dead end cruiser
I'm the king of fools
Gonna end up doing time
Gotta hang on tight, the radio is playing
a really bad song

Back off, get lost
No more sweat blood or tears for you
Don't wanna see your ugly face
Back off, get lost

I sing that outlaw lovesong
But not for you so stay away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Bones’s song, "Dead End Cruisin," tell the story of a protagonist who has hit rock bottom. He has lost everything in one fateful night, including his girlfriend, who has left him. He’s now lying in the backseat of his broken Chevrolet, broke and out of luck. The character is a "dead end cruiser," a man who feels he's at the end of the line with nothing to lose.

The singer seems to have a past where he was involved with a more exciting lifestyle. He longs for the good times he had with a girl wrapped around his arm, as they went cruising around town, jamming to rock and roll tunes. But now, he’s lost it all and left alone to contemplate his mistakes in life. In a way, the song is an anthem of despair, about a man who has hit rock bottom and lost everything.

In the chorus, the singer sings of how he sings outlaw love songs, but not for the person he's addressing; he wants him/her to stay away. The lyrics may be interpreted in many ways, but perhaps it's about somebody trying to win back the singer, but he doesn't want to go back to the same old life he had before.
