Yet for some reason The Boys occupy a neglected position in relation to London's early Punk scene, probably because they weren't clothed by Sex or managed by Malcolm McLaren. Being tagged the "Punk Beatles" couldn't have helped either, and by '81 they called it quits.
Plagued by mishaps, bad timing and plain bad luck they managed to keep smiling and come up with corking, hyper-speed pop classics like "Brickfield Nights" and "Rue Morgue". In short The Boys were a gem of a band and a total inspiration to any Punk band who value tunes over noise.
There are others artists with the same name:
2) Jheryl Busby signed the Abdulsamad Brothers, better known as the Boys, while employed at MCA Records. "The Boys" Khiry (born November 8, 1973), Tajh (born December 10, 1976), Hakim (born March 27, 1975), and Bilal Abdulsamad (born April 17, 1978) started singing in their hometown of Carson, CA, when Bilal was five and Khiry nine. They are best known for their 1988 hit single "Dial My Heart". Today, they live in Gambia on the West Coast of Africa
3) The Boys. Australia (1980), Made "When You're Lonely" 7" a nice new wave/power pop single.
4) The Boys were a Lincoln, Nebraska band power pop group. They put out three singles including "She's All Mine" (1975) and "You Make Me Shake" (1977).
5) The Boys was a powerpop group from Sweden.

The Boys Lyrics

I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead
Punk rock girl
Punk rock girl
What do you see?
Let's travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl
I tapped her on the shoulder
And said do you have a beau?
She looked at me and smiled and said she did not know
Punk rock girl
Give me a chance
Punk rock girl
Let's go slam dance
We'll dress like Milton Berle
Just you and me punk rock girl
We went on tour to Texas
And we ordered some hot tea
The waiter said no, we only have it iced
So we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy
And someone played a Beach Boys song on the jukebox
It it was "California Dreamin"
So we started screamin
On such a winter's day
She took me to her parents for a Sunday meal
Her father took one look at me and he began to squeal
Punk rock girl
It makes no sense
Punk rock girl
Your dad is not vice president
We'll jazz to Duke of Earl
Yeah you're for me punk rock girl
Solo!
We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us to a record store
We asked for G.G. Allin
They said he don't work here
We said if you don't got G.G. Allin then we're gonna burn your mall down!!
We got into her car away we started rollin
I said how much you pay for this
she said nothin man it's stolen
Punk rock girl
You look so wild
Punk rock girl
Let's have a child
We'll name her Minnie Pearl
Just you and me
Eat fudge banana swirl
Just you and me
We'll travel round the world
Just you and me
Punk rock girl
The lyrics to The Boys' song "Punk Rock Girl" tell the story of a narrator who meets a girl at a punk rock store called Zipperhead. He is immediately drawn to her and asks her to look at him, hoping for a connection. They decide to travel the world together as punk rockers, embracing the rebellious and non-conformist lifestyle.
The singer taps the girl on the shoulder and asks if she has a boyfriend. She responds with uncertainty, indicating that she is open to giving him a chance. They bond over their shared love for punk rock and the idea of slam dancing together. They decide to dress unconventionally, referencing Milton Berle, a comedian known for his cross-dressing performances.
The lyrics then take a humorous turn, as the couple goes on tour to Texas and encounters a waiter who only serves iced tea. In an act of rebellion, they jump on a table and shout anarchy. The Beach Boys' song "California Dreamin'" plays in the background, adding another layer of irony as they scream on a winter's day.
The story progresses to the girl taking the singer to meet her parents for a Sunday meal. However, her father reacts negatively to his appearance, believing that a punk rock girl cannot be associated with him because he is not the vice president. Despite this, they still find joy in their own company, jazzing to the Duke of Earl.
In another rebellious act, they go to a shopping mall and mock the shoppers, drawing the attention of security guards. They ask for G.G. Allin, a controversial punk rock musician known for his confrontational and explicit performances, at a record store but are told he doesn't work there. In response, they threaten to burn down the mall. The song ends with a lighthearted twist, as they drive away in a car that the girl reveals to be stolen, emphasizing their wild and unconventional nature.
Overall, "Punk Rock Girl" celebrates the spirit of punk rock and rebellion, depicting a couple who reject societal norms and expectations in favor of a free-spirited and adventurous lifestyle.

She’s tougher than Siouxsie, cuter than Gaye
Weirder than Polly, takes my breath away
She’d rather wear safety pins, than diamonds or pearls
She’s my punk rock girl, punk rock girl
I’ve known so many girls all around the world
There’s no one like my punk rock girl
She’s fresher than Doris Day, perfect in every way
I’d be nothing without her, no sir, without her
She’s got the face of an angel, always dresses in black
Wears a leather jacket, Johnny Thunders on the back
Takes crap from no one, got me in a whirl
She’s my punk rock girl, punk rock girl
She’s a punk rock girl, punk rock girl
She’s a punk punk punk rocker
Punk punk punk rock girl
Punk rock girl

talent never leaves like youth does.still a brilliant band with timeless relevant catchy songs full of great melodies and lyrics, without a doubt the best band to emerge from the london original punk movement,as far as songwriting is concerned the original early boys songs although composed largely by casino steel and matt, after hearing the first time and songs like tcp its clear honest john has great songwriting talents and ability, its great to have another writing force as part of the boys musical armoury, this track is fantastic.

@theboysuk Got a question. Did some of you play a gig in central west London with the Lurkers in the early eighties. Memory is a bit faded but I was there for some mix of people. It was in a pub. (I know that doesn't really narrow it down.!!!)

Love the "Sheena is...." reference. Much underrated band in the day. But they clearly still know the essence of a punk song. The NEMS album remains a favourite.

Thanks Jamie

A very good song. I have a huge fondness for The Boys, because the first punk vinyl I ever bought was the band's first album. I paid half my mom's paycheck. Such were the prices of records in the late 70's in Poland. Greetings.
