Give It All
The Brains Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know it all, I know it all
Your secrets open up to my answers
And every time I think I know, I find I really never know
Certainty is a luxury for the masses
I want it all, I want it all
I wanna deconstruct your opinions
And every time I think I know, I find I really never know
Certainty is a luxury for the masses
Certainty is a luxury for dumb asses
Don't wanna take it slow
I need to know
Whatever makes you go
Help me understand it, I don't know
I opened up, you spoke your mind
Your sermon left me weary and hopeless
And every time you tell me why, I see you choking on a lie
Acceptance is a luxury for the masses
Complacency's a luxury for dumb asses
Don't wanna take it slow
I need to know
Whatever makes you go
Help me understand it, I don't know
If I could open up your head
Would all your thoughts be what you said
Or is the chain you're pullin' all your own?
Don't wanna take it slow
I need to know
Whatever makes you go

Help me understand it, I really have to hand it
To your leaders, they're the breeders of the clones

Overall Meaning

The Brains's song Give It All is about the desire to know everything about someone and their opinions. The lyricist professes to know everything and that the listener's secrets are open to their answers. However, despite this knowledge, they still don't understand everything and certainty is just a luxury for the masses. They want to uncover more, deconstruct opinions and get to the root of what makes the person tick. The song also warns against complacency and acceptance of lies.

The chorus repeats the lines "Don't wanna take it slow, I need to know, Whatever makes you go, Help me understand it, I don't know" which signifies the need for answers and understanding. The lyricist wants to know what motivates the person and what their true thoughts are. In the last verse, the lyricist questions whether the listener's thoughts are really their own or influenced by others. The song ends with the line "To your leaders, they're the breeders of the clones" which suggests that the lyricist feels that the listener's opinions are not their own but rather influenced by others, perhaps leaders in their life.

I just have one question about this.
Did they gave you a script for the lyrics?
Or they told you the sequence for the episode?
Cuz you know, the song and the episode are blend together so...
Did the song shaped the episode?
or
the episode (script) shaped the lyrics?

It would be sooo damn great if I get an answer.

The B&M writers made the perfect choice when they picked Voltaire for a commissioned song. His style just matches the show so well.

Thank you! But giving credit where credit is due, I was asked by Maxwell Atoms, the show's creator. :)
