Me and what I've done
I wrote a letter to sweet Louise
I confessed my love
And I thought that everyone would know by now
I've been alive long enough to know how things just get around
And everybody probably thinks I'm crazy
That I fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love and I couldn't help myself
"One, two, a one, two, three, four"
It was like a movie
Watching her eyes read
What I wrote made sweet Louise
Feel weak in her knees
And I thought that everyone would know by now
I've been alive long enough to know how things just get around
And everybody probably thinks I'm crazy
Well I'll just tell you now
That I fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love and I couldn't help myself
In that moment you knew from her eyes
She don't feel the same
But oh my words were not in vain
'Cause I can always say till the day I die
That I, I told her anyway
Well I'll just tell you now
That I fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love and I couldn't help myself
I just fell in love
The lyrics of The Brigade's song "Louise" depict the singer's experience of confessing his love to a girl named Louise. The song begins with the singer mentioning that he wrote a letter to Louise to confess his feelings. He believed that news of his love for her would have spread among people by now, as information often tends to circulate. However, he acknowledges that everyone probably thinks he is crazy for falling in love. Despite this perception, the singer is determined to express his emotions.
The second paragraph of the song emphasizes the impact of the singer's letter on Louise. He compares the unfolding of events to a movie, watching her eyes as she reads his words. The words he wrote apparently make Louise feel weak in the knees, signifying the depth of his affection for her.
As the song continues, the singer reiterates his awareness that Louise does not reciprocate his feelings. Even though she does not feel the same way, he does not regret expressing his love to her. He believes that his words were not in vain, as he can always say that he told her anyway. This implies that the act of confessing his love holds significance to him, regardless of the outcome.
The song concludes with the repeated chorus, where the singer reiterates his inability to control falling in love. Despite the potential disappointment and rejection, he emphasizes that he could not help but fall in love with Louise, emphasizing the uncontrollable nature of emotions.
Overall, "Louise" by The Brigade captures the vulnerability and persistence of the singer's emotions. It explores themes of unrequited love, the courage to express one's feelings, and the acceptance of the uncontrollable nature of falling in love.
